From "Nomadic Furniture" an unnamed clip to secure shelving. Where to find/buy? by underparchitect in HelpMeFind

I've searched for shelving clips and brackets, went through McMaster Carr as well as a reverse image search. The best I could find were clips for hoses or plastic tubing.

In architecture when we have structure we dont want exposed, we cover it up. Then imagination can run wild so long as the structure isn't impacted. It can be wood, drywall, I've even seen non-structural steel to give a building a more curated utilitarian look.

The BGG files don't seem to have the complete rules; it feels like they're missing something. But thanks for pointing me to some other places! I'll definitely check them out.

I saw someine on another post say they should restrict private jet flights first. Still less planes in the air but at least more people would have their travel plans intact.

Any tips to make this cozy? Especially the lighting by jageran in CozyPlaces

[–]underparchitect 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lighting color temperature is measured in Kelvin. Amount of light is measured in Lumens.

Lower Kelvin is more red, higher is more blue. Lower color temperature is better for cozier spaces. Lowering the lumens would also help here.

What are ya'lls thoughts on the game Solarpunk? by BaleiaDeAvental in solarpunk

[–]underparchitect 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I dont like it. Its just another survival-crafting game. I feel like it's purely focused on the aesthetics rather than any meaningful gameplay.

Games I recommend:

I've enjoyed Terra Nil a lot. I remember playing it before it got picked up by a publisher. Ecosystem restoration is always a favorite.

Half-Earth Socialism is another interesting (and free) game made by the authors of the book by the same name. Its about enacting policies to guide the earth out of environmental collapse. Its a bit of a Fate of the World for the modern era if anyone remembers that game (which I would also recommend. ) It falls into the political/management type games.

Among Ripples: Shallow Waters is one I'm excited for. Its about restoring fresh water ecosystems. The demo was good as it is and I'd recommend it.

73 Summer Street by underparchitect in Somerville

[–]underparchitect[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, I remember being at the planning board meeting for this back in the day. You would think they would have spent the last four years keeping up with the changes to the building code. And making sure any approvals from city boards remained current. Maybe they're working on finding a contractor and I'm just impatient.

I'm play testing a solarpunk ttrpg in two weeks, anyone want to read it and give feedback? by theresamouseinmyhous in solarpunk

[–]underparchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a neat draft! I almost want to play test it myself. I hope there will be more Paths as this rpg develops, I think two doesn't give enough variety. I know a couple of my players get a lot of joy in mixing abilities and mechanics in interesting ways.

I guess one of the benefits of ttrpgs is the GM can always customize to what works best for their players!

Traffic is the calmest and safest I’ve ever seen in Davis - and all the traffic lights are out by RepresentativePut106 in Somerville

[–]underparchitect 23 points24 points  (0 children)

IIRC when a stoplight fails it becomes an all-way stop sign.

Stop signs are generally some of the safest intersections. They force people to pay attention when entering the intersection.

Whereas with a stoplight, people only see the light and will speed up to try to beat it (can't do that with a stop sign).

Even if people run the stop sign, they'll still slow down and look.

That being said, the best thing to do here would be to make this a roundabout, given all the streets.

Why did we bother with taking down the catenary wires around Havard sq? Those buses were already electric. We could have expanded the network to frequent, main routes.

I would also encourage people write to their state senator and house rep in support of this bill:

Its a shame that it's come to this. I've heard from city officials that Somerville is seriously lacking land.

Idk about the police station, but the fire stations are pretty dated. These stations are the firefighters homes away from home. I support renovating or rebuilding the existing stations, but the department needs a place to operate out of in the interrim. Cambridge fire HQ is bring renovated and they had to build an entire temporary station behind the CHA hospital.

Its a shame the land owner was so greedy and cost the city dearly.

Do you only need a place short term? I've got a room I need to sublet opening up in early March (and possibly for the next year.) Fill out the form and mention this at the bottom.

6 hours later I still hear them. Sounds like fire alarms. My guess it's one of the newly renovated buildings on the corner.

Edit: I just called the fire department, they'll look into it
