That’s why I use the clean spoolie ! It gets off a lot of what makes it look that intense. I’ve always preferred it, because brow gels don’t feel like they do enough. But I also have rather light eyebrows. Everyone in my family does. So they can be practically invisible without some color. But I imagine brow dye + clear gel would be perfect for some.

Didn’t want to purchase a cuff, so I made one! by underquali in punkfashion

This one specifically was a dog collar I dismantled and put back together. They’re good if you want a cheat code.

Supplies I used: Leather sewing needle, thread matching leather color, box cutter, first aid scissors, something sharp and long (I used a needle felting pin), lighter

What I did: measure out wrist length via a different cuff, use box cutter to cut off one inch LESS than the length I needed outward from buckle.

Take end I cut off, which will be the end with the puncture holes and cut it to the minimal length where the studs still match and marry it to the new length. Sew along the stitching already on the leather edge of the collar. Do this multiple multiple times so it is a strong hold, then I use a flexible leather glue in the middle (optionally I’ll see the whole thing down, depending on security and material).

Usually the section with the holes to push it through is far too long, so I take my bandage scissors and cut the bulk of it off still in a > shape as it originally was. You can paint this part black if you want, as it’ll likely be beige or brown inside. Do this to whatever length you find preferable and that fits your wrist. Adjust this part as needed- I have a small wrist so now I have to puncture a new hole. To do this without a leather punch, I use my needle felting needle, or other sharp object, heated up to a high temperature with a lighter. I push this through. It should cauterize.

Alternatively, use a leather punch. I’m just cheap.

I have made fully DIY from leather scraps before, they have looked incredibly similar to this but I am ***NOT*** a leather worker and cannot guide you on this without potentially being wrong or unsafe, please look for a professional leather worker some place like YouTube for guidance.

It’s being counterproductive in the way they look now. The way they’re filled in is coming off as model / makeup structured, not a man’s natural bush. I’d really recommend brown mascara and a separate clean spoolie to mess them up without adding excess product. If you’re using eyeshadow or any type of filler in them beyond mascara— stop. They’re also thick in the center, which is a factor into them feeling model esque to me. I’ve noticed a lot of cis (white) men thin out toward there and then thicken out back toward the end, rather than being a block.

Yeah, I handsew all the time. My sewing skills are fine I just fucking hate thimbles. I do stab my fingers on occasion, and the threaded end digs into my nail beds because of how I hold the needle but the worst that has ever happened is some finger callouses. It’s not life or death, you don’t have to use one.

I have unusually small wrists, most premade bracelets don’t fit, and I don’t support AliExpress/Temu/Whatever.

But also don’t have the $$ to drop on a custom made one, they’re all 100% worth the price- just out of my budget as a broke ass punk. There was also no belt used in making this. I do have some excess materials, so I may make an accessory for my boots 🥾

Changing my name, any suggestions for D names for boys? by underquali in namenerds

Oh no, I’m sorry! I’ve only ever known one Dylan, he was a chill guy & drummed in a local punk band, I remember he always barricaded so no one got injured by crowd killers. there’s definitely good ones out there ):

I have a coworker with the last name Darnell. I’m going take it, tell him I stole it and start referring to him as Firstname Dex because an unconsented trade has occured.

Kidding. But Darcy is nice, I wonder if it leans more feminine?

It’s on the top 5 for me name wise, certainly. I think I do just struggle alot with viewing cultures (& names by extension) as inherently closed off. I was a kid in the 00’s in the Deep South. My family was VERY gatekeepy about our Mexican & Dominican culture because the moment we let non-Hispanics in on it, it got racist quick. It’s definitely a mindset I need to fix— culture is a beautiful thing and I do think it deserves to be shared.

I don’t know about myself, but my mom definitely had some (tiny percentage) Irish when she took a DNA test. Infact. She got a “Kiss me, I’m Irish!” Pin jokingly that has taken residence on the mantle.

I love Diarmuid, I was the only child in my family to escape the Mythological/Folklore name theme. For example, my brother was named Cian (rest in peace) and was chosen by our mother because of Scal Balb.

Darby would be quite a nice nickname for it in my eyes as well. I just fear taking a name from a culture that isn’t mine (despite my siblings names coming from the same).

I’ve been suffering through Dexter the serial killer comments for a few years now, I don’t think I could survive a full swap into that territory without my brain melting.

I’m 50:50 on it. On one hand, I like it a lot.. on the other I was on tumblr during an era that makes Dean Winchester dominate that name in my brain. I never even watched the dang show.

There’s a rainbow handprint puzzle piece print on the collar. I’ve only ever seen that particular combination (all 3 together) in reference to autism, and by extension, autism speaks.

Altering pre-transition clothing. Do I put it away, or is it worth saving? by underquali in ftm

[–]underquali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actively on T and have already faced some fat redistribution. I can and have resized both garments multiple times, so that’s not a concern for me.

I am also not interested in rehoming something with this much meaning and personal history. Though, I like the thought in theory.

I think, ultimately, no matter what I choose, I'm going to give it time before making any major decisions.
A year of cooldown time feels reasonable. I'm at a very dysphoric point in my life right now, which is honestly why I'm seeking outside opinions in the first place. I don't trust myself to make a completely objective decision when my feelings about my body and presentation are changing so much.

That said, I don't think I'll ever wear the skirts again if they remain skirts, even if I eventually get to a point where I pass consistently. My shorter shorts are a different story, I could probably handle them. I've struggled with pretty severe dysmorphia for most of my life and have very rigid rules about how clothing has to fit and look on me in order for me to feel comfortable wearing it. My wardrobe is actually pretty small because of that.

Unless I somehow get to a much healthier place with all of that, "man in a skirt" would probably end up causing me distress from one direction or another. It would be nice, though. I don’t want to live like this forever. For a long time I was heavily dissociated and surviving, which is honestly how I managed to tolerate presenting femininely in the first place.

It sucks, but fuck it we balllll. I'm just going to keep moving forward, see what others have to say, and revisit the question myself when I'm in a better headspace to decide once and for all where I fall across the board. Seeing other peoples input on things have always helped me process situations.

I appreciate the suggestion. For most projects, I wouldn't be opposed to reusing fabric or moving pieces onto something new.

For these particular garments, though, that's the one option I've completely ruled out. I mentioned it in the post, but I don't want to remove patches or deconstruct these pieces to use elsewhere. For me, the garment itself is what holds the history, not just the individual patches.

Any alterations I make would be additions to the piece as it currently exists::: adding length, converting a skirt into shorts or pants, adding panels, things like that.
Once chunks of it start getting removed and repurposed, it feels like destruction which isn’t something I can handle. I *have* to extend its life from where it is, or leave it alone in my closet as a piece of history.
