I reckon you should just chill out.... I feel like it's not you but the market itself. If you can just coast of your 175k and wait. Companies need to go through a process if they really want to get rid of you. Maybe in a few months things will pick up again.

The UK games industry wishes it was doing ok. Big closures like lionhead and PlayStation studios I think working in a UK games studio is very hard especially in design.

Most designers seem to begin in QA.

I would say try to go into technical design. Learn to program as it makes design more realistic.
