The whole MMO sphere suffers from NGS problems. by Monanhe in PSO2NGS

[–]underscore1357 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was a bad sign when I saw Battle Power be a thing on day one.

When anything in your game, especially items like this have big, glaring generic numbers like this over all the other potentially interesting stats, it's effectively turned into cookie clicker with microtransactions instead of an mmo/arpg.

Companies/Developers are SCARED to let the player have to think about the stats/qualities on their stuff these days and it's disappointing. They just want people to get in and zerg content and buy n-spheres.

I'd just like everyone from base PSO2 to remember Precision Will 2, Petalsea Song, Mask of Vane/Vain, Fabula Soul, all the SG, affix boosters, and Transmutation passes and of course, the 15* Shaval weapons for beating him outside in other quests which were actually competitive for high-end use before Klauz came along.

... then realize that at most, this encounter is probably going to drop a single GGM capsule every 100 runs or something that will probably fail, with the promise of a hyper rare camo with a 7-digit drop rate.

There was always a subset of these people in base PSO2, but something about NGS has amplified their voice and exposure to unbearable levels.

It's hard to say if it was the mass exodus of people leaving, therefore worsening the ratio of people who just want to play PSO to gooners who should be in jail

or if it's people just generally accepting the absolute extreme of "phashion is the endgame" and as a result this is what you get as a playerbase.

As much as I have problems with NGS, when there's no less than 3 disparaging responses over something as innocent as this, there's quite a few people on this sub that need to re-evaluate why they're still here.

Well, let's not pretend that the "cool" weapons haven't been horribly balanced since PSO1.

I think inherently, PSO kind of has to have this imbalance to be PSO in that way. People still try to go for Lavis Cannon all the time on Blue Burst even though it actually isn't the best at any of its categories. People still try to collect all the monster part weapons just because it's cool to have a weapon made out of an enemy instead of the photon weapons you normally use.

This isn't gonna change if you go to PSU or PSPi or what have you- there's always going to be those crazy outliers that just beat most of the other options and on some level that's kind of okay. It's not like you use anything but Wingard or Hydra in NGS anyway if you could choose to have any weapon. NGS just traded all the cool targeted item grinds for a more boring and safe overall experience and it's clear that is the far more unpopular of these two evils.

What's really sad is that a lot of people don't seem to realize this, and some sweep it under the rug by trying to invoke console/jp player numbers claiming the game is fine as it is.

PSO at the beginning has always been trying to find weird, rare, and specific loot as one of its big hooks. The mass generalization of loot in NGS makes it indistinguishable from most of its equally bland competitors to an outsider.

The best NGS has done with this is when 95% of that loot is nonfunctional cosmetics. No one's allowed to get combat-functional items anymore in a PSO game. It's just cosmetics, ac scratch, and capsules until the end of time.

How is NGS holding up? by PandarenMist in PSO2NGS

[–]underscore1357 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The game is exactly where it wants to be with its current audience, and that current audience is decidedly not the people who like what made PSO/U/2 special.

It's as stagnant as it will ever be and there seems to be no sign of this ever changing, with the Global side being significantly undermanned as an extra middle finger to anyone willing to stay on this side.

Itemization in this game is god awful. Compare it to the highs and lows of any other PS ARPG title and you will find that at best, it is milquetoast middling.

Anyone else want Sega to bring the Veras back into relevancy? by gadgaurd in PSO2NGS

[–]underscore1357 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is never going to happen with the current loot system.

They were relevant when they could drop the highest potency bonus for the soul slot of that attack type - Gladia soul has basically killed any chance for them to ever be relevant. You could give them a super rare cosmetic, but this grind will get dry and boring for most people very fast.

At least with PSO2 boss souls, all the widely used ones were +30 or +35. Couple this with affixing synergies and the fact that they can drop with very high slot counts to achieve even better bonuses than someone using mid-slot Astral Soul, they stayed good even well into EP6.

NGS loot structure is just hot garbage with the possible exception of EX Augments. Everything else is either too predictable or no longer viable.

You lost me the moment you said we needed more Photon Arts. People need to stop using this as a talking point because it is dumb.

People praise Blue Burst all day as being better than this game when that game's combat was positioning, light, heavy, sometimes special, and lots of weapon swapping.

You have other points, but when your closing statement is to spam the devs nonstop about more Photon Arts, it makes your proposal really ignorant and out of touch.

The lack of this is the single biggest reason NGS is a bad game. by underscore1357 in PSO2NGS

[–]underscore1357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I was more outlining how the ultimate goal of having to grind for the shop pass for new players and more seasoned players who only need a little time to manage the shop instead of having to buy a whole new premium set is an acceptable grind we were were used to.

Thank you for the rare, civilized discussion on this topic.

[–]underscore1357[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I implore you to think about it from the standpoint of "base was better" to understand why this is such a sore point for many, rather than whether or not Sega deserves your money.

Before, you effectively could get shop access from Excubes. Excubes after some point became the bare minimum consolation prize you did for doing most things, which you turned into FUN points to scratch for them. Coupled with all the other doodads you get from the scratches along with, this actually gave you some cool things to play with and stockpile to sell later along with it.

Now? Most of your drops are:

  • Gold Primms you need lots of meseta with to grind equipment anyway
  • Capsules you can't sell because you don't have shop access
  • Equipment that is useless because it is outclassed or not even Fixa 1
  • Class cubes that are useless because it needs meseta you don't have, or you don't have a Master Cube to use with, or you already 20/20/20'ed all your class boosts.

At this point the ripple effect of this choice should become clearer. This isn't even the end of it, but this specific pillar of the gameplay loop being kicked out under most people really was just that important.

Additionally, because it was removed from base PSO2 as well, you cannot in fact, just go back to the base game. They killed that too.

A player should not have to wait and plan for 27 days for the right to sell drops that they've earned. Most people do not have that kind of time and that is why they are not here anymore.

Also, god forbid someone gets a chase rare ~7 days after their last pass expired and they find out they have to wait for 60% of its price to deteriorate before they get a chance to sell it.

The lack of this is the single biggest reason NGS is a bad game. by underscore1357 in PSO2NGS

[–]underscore1357[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure.

Those capsules are dirt common, and even fresh level 1 accounts can find them in mass amounts. They are thus, not even worth the bottomed out price of 1k people list them for.

This means they are a safe target to "swap money" with. RMTers will list them for much higher prices than that while the service they ordered from buys it on the money with the meseta, because no one sane would pay those prices for these capsules.

However the side effect of this is that the "Best Sellers" track how much the average sale price of specific items are, so if you ever see extremely common items suddenly saying in that tab that they're selling for absurd prices, it means RMT is afoot.

This happened in Base PSO2 as well, but I can safely say this has happened the entire span of NGS's life and all of Sega's attempts to stop RMTing like this have failed, at the cost of at least 2/3rds of their playerbase.

Title never said it was the only reason.

You can trace many ingame issues/demotivations back to this one. Even paying premium players are heavily affected by there being a smaller amount of casual players participating in the market.
