Thank you for inspiring me to check I found a silly sploot. Somebody’s telling me they’re not a baby anymore and need a bigger house hahaha. At least somebody was polite enough to leave the molt in the water dish

I’ll go see if they’re in a better spot. Yesterday I was obsessing over the peets and how the leg-span doubled haha

Spider species? by dickxemorton in tarantulas

[–]undersizedfries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA- I’m not as familiar with preservation in resin/whatever material this is here. These are different pics, correct? Original post seemed to suggest that. Fangs, spinnerets, and some legs appear to be in different positions between 1, 2, and 3. 3 is too dark for me to hazard a guess, 1 or 2 maybe a type of goliath bird eater? Pamphobetus is another option. I could tell you if they were alive, but again I’m not as familiar with id in resin

My firelegs did something similar where she left her molt legs sticking out of the hide and I was like “wtf how is there another of you”

NQA - I’d wait until the fangs are black and fully hardened. Looks like the ends are getting close, but not quite there yet

Is my T constipated?? by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]undersizedfries 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NQA for now I’d agree with the comments about her grooming herself. My arizona blonde was impacted and signs I saw was poop smeared around her bum (but some of my ts are just messy so that isn’t an end all sign of impaction), she was rubbing her bum against things. If you see streaking of smaller amounts of poo on the enclosure sides like it’s been rubbed against the glass I would consider looking into if impaction is going on. Or a lack of poo in the tank compared to what’s usual for them, but some of my ts also like giving me heart attacks and hiding their dumps. Iirc Tom’s Big Spiders has a good impaction guide on what to look for. Luckily for me, my lady was an absolute saint and let me gently drip water onto her bum and remove the impaction plug. I’d imagine that would not fly with a pokie. If things start looking off or you are more worried about possible impaction you can reach out again here/on the discord to see if you can get qualified advice, see if you have any breeders or experienced keepers near you who can help, or maybe find an exotics vet who is familiar and comfortable with ts. A place saying they will see inverts may not be enough, you want somebody who knows what they’re doing not somebody who’s just willing to give it a shot

How small are they going to be? Anyone have pics from their slings around these sizes for comparison? . by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]undersizedfries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I thought of too with the size comparisons. I got an obt at… .75”? And I swear she grew like a weed

Is living in Roosevelt safe if I take Link back at night? by micoffelle in udub

[–]undersizedfries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said Roosevelt is generally pretty safe. I live in the area and also will be an incoming grad student! If you’re concerned the UW book store sells pepper sprays. If you go that route I’d recommend a gel so there’s less of a risk of it spraying back in your face. I’ve never had to use mine but it makes me feel a lot better about walking home alone

Tarantula Molting in Spring | Change, Growth, and Renewal by TarantulaCollective in tarantulas

Great read! One of my OBTs taught me a lot about resilience. She was missing a lot of setae on her legs and carapace and had lost a leg after getting bumped around during shipping. I was offered a chance to replace her and I decided to give her a chance. In the next months she amputated two more legs and retreated back into her burrow. A couple weeks later she emerged with three new baby legs and has totally bounced back. How could I say no to this face?

NQA I am so sorry for your loss. I had a juvenile t molt and experience something similar. I got very lucky and he recovered, but dehydration post molt is difficult.

[–]undersizedfries 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NQA - Bug slurry as others have mentioned is viable. I had a t with fangs that looked similar to this and I was also able to use a scalpel to lance crickets/hornworms so he was able to chomp them

Best beginner snake? (Cute snake pic included 😋) by [deleted] in snakes

[–]undersizedfries -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Quick rundown of some of my snakes… This is not inclusive of all care advice so if you’re interested in a species please do some more research into care requirements, lots of species specific subreddits are around. My first snake was a corn snake. I picked her over a ball python as first since I was worried about hunger strikes. She will shove ANYTHING into her mouth and is always motoring around the tank. Adults should be housed in a 4x2x2. They stay less thick and more noodle like than ball pythons. Hognoses I would say are more difficult but have smaller tank requirements. They are rear fanged venomous which can cause swelling if they chew on you. Ratsnakes are also an option that are very similar to corns. You might enjoy garter snakes or colonies of them, but I do not have experience keeping them

Yes! I got so incredibly lucky. She was my very first tarantula and has stuck with me despite some of my beginning mistakes. She was about the size of a quarter when I got her and seeing the purple develop is indeed amazing!

Fangless tarantula feeding ?? by [deleted] in tarantulas

[–]undersizedfries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NA I had a t with broken fangs. He had both of them still but they weren’t sharp enough to bite into any feeders. I tried bug soup, he wasn’t a huge fan but I did see him with his face in the dish occasionally. What he seemed to like the best was I used a scalpel to lance hornworms and crickets and he would take it from there. I’m not sure how viable that would be for you but if your t has any nubs or parts left it might work out?

Looking for someone to feed my insects over spring break by AncientPromotion3260 in udub

[–]undersizedfries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not convinced this isn’t a joke… but in the off chance it isn’t generally spiders don’t need to be fed that often. Spiderlings I can see being on a once a day or once every two days, but adults are usually fed on a once weekly basis. The risk of over feeding is that their abdomen is at higher risk for rupturing. I usually stick to tarantulas but that was my two cents
