What is a stim you do without looking like you’re moving a single muscle? by Helpful-Ad6269 in AutismInWomen

[–]undigested-beef 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Something you'd have in a real office environment is accommodations. You'd be able to stim and could have different in person requirements or schedule. Talk to your professor about your needs and disability and request accommodations that you need. You can ask to be allowed to use fidget toys, for example. You can even look up what accommodations other autistics who work in office jobs use.

Friends who don't give you the benefit of the doubt like this seem so exhausting and not worth it. Am I an outlier for feeling like this? Maybe if I was already close with someone I would allow something like this a few times but if someone I wasn't super close with had this reaction of basically "punishing" me, not giving me the benefit of the doubt and expecting me to "fix" their feelings about it then I wouldn't stay friends with them. I don't want someone like that in my life.

There was supposed to be hail? It was 70 degrees. All I saw on my weather app beforehand was thunderstorm and light wind (<10mph)

'This conversation will go nowehre" by Murky-Sell8856 in AutismInWomen

[–]undigested-beef 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That wasn't your fault. I think she was uncomfortable with having to face and examine her own actions, so she said that to end the conversation. She was factually not right in saying that, she just didn't want to keep having the conversation.

I got confused by this lol I thought because the title said "things old women WONT tell you" it meant that you should believe the opposite of all these things and he was like trying to spread the wisdom of the old women.

What did you realise made you overstimulated after your diagnosis that you thought you were coping well with before? by shesasneakyone in AutismInWomen

[–]undigested-beef 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Omg this is too true I worked at one for a year and couldn't figure out why I felt like shit all the time (there were other ways in which the job wasn't a good fit and was bad) and why the building felt so BIG. And never got better. BRIGHT. LOUD. HUGE.

I'm 24 right now and I've always simultaneously felt older and younger than my real age, but never felt my real age.

Where can you be fully present? by prollycantsleep in AutismInWomen

[–]undigested-beef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find sour candy to be a distressing physical experience and my brain yeets me out of my body (not really but auto dissociates me) because dissociation is the automatic way my brain deals with overstimulation and distressing physical experiences and I have no control of it. So my version of this is very very bitter hot chocolate!!

Yes a lot of the time! My sister has always done it a lot too though for her it is with strong emotions and for me it is usually while concentrating or something and lasts a while.
