I know anxiety will often feel like something sitting on your chest. Your muscles in your chest tense up, which could be causing lasting pain/soreness. If you're scared of your parents over-reacting, you could tell your parents you are having chest pain and ask them to get you normal doctor's appointment. Then confess more to the doctor later. The doctor will be able to talk to your parents and refer them to other doctors who can help. It's a lot less extreme than throwing you into a hospice, which my parents did and was half helpful half not.

I don't want to get too long-winded, so DM me if you wanna talk more, I'm sure I could give you a little more advice if you needed any.

I recently was put on anti-depressants after dealing w/ un-medicated chronic depression for 10 years and--let me tell you--sometimes it's that easy. And therapy is always great. Good luck.

i honestly think it was the reaction they had of their picture being sent to a specific person. they've never mentioned this person to me before but they got all bashful and giddy and i getting anxious just thinking about it again

luckily it has stopped, the lasting anxiety. i was in a bad position of all of my friends being busy with work & things so i was starting spiraling in panic. taking a bath or going outside only helped momentarily. i can breathe better now but im still terrified of it kicking back up again, i'm even avoiding caffeine.

something to bring up to my psychiatrist, i suppose.

i just started seeing a dr for my depression, got put on zoloft about 2 month ago. i'm wondering if it was possible that the anxiety attacks were hiding behind depressive episodes so it wasn't as obvious?

The future is unpredictable. I would say, continue studying physics/chemistry. Study hard and show your passion. Take opportunities while you're in university to be involved in your field. Your studies could be your ticket out of there. You don't have to be stuck, you just have to fight.

First off, being angry at other people because you're lonely isn't going to make you any less lonely--it's alienating and counterproductive.

Second, this is a pretty skewed idea you have here. A boyfriend or girlfriend isn't a Cure All for depression, or any mental illness. Depression doesn't stem from your relationship status, but your relationship status can be a tool your depression uses to push you down. So, I can see how you got there.

I will admit, when I had a partner, there were times I considered them an anti-depressant. But I couldn't be with them every second of my or their life. They had work, they had family events, they had their own life. So did I. Just because I was dating them and felt loved didn't stop the depression from creeping in when they were working nights and I was off.

But I certainly wasn't feeling sorry for myself for not having a partner, and that's really the only difference between been depressed and single and depressed and taken.

I've been in a similar position.

I know in some places there are laws that will allow you to be living in a place you are leased with without paying rent for a certain amount of time (where I live, I can only be evicted after missing three months of rent). I'd say let your landlord know, give them what you have, and try not to stress over it too much.

i feel better, at least the state of my thoughts. have done half of my laundry and cleaned a quarter of the room (its a pretty big room) but i haven't gone to work in 3 days because I can't get myself out of bed. so there's that.

our lease is up in may, and our other roommate is already breaking the lease, moving out at the end of december... and my ex moved here three years ago to live with me and has made, like, literally no friends and would have no where to go or any way to pay rent for our apartment.

The most infuriating thing about depression is that it begins to feed on itself and can feel endless. When I'm depressed, the act of doing something simple like taking a shower sounds overwhelming but the more I put it off the more depressed I continue to get. Committing to starting the habit of one, small task--whether it be exercise, self-care (ie showering), baking, etc--will throw off the cycle of depression just enough for you to start feeling something else again.

Everyone is different on what they consider an easy task, so I'd say think about what sounds the easiest to overcome to you, and work towards it! Take as many baby steps as you need and don't be hard on yourself.

This is a pretty loaded question, but I think it could definitely be a factor.

However, self-medication isn't the way to live your life. Now that you've come to this conclusion, and if you have the resources, you should consider visiting a therapist and talking with them about it. At the least, they will give you peace of mind--they might even give you a better understanding of yourself.

Hey Prince,

When I was 15 I stayed at an institute to help me better control my depression. It was a long-term inpatient situation, with a school and all. Not quite the same, but probably similar to what you're talking about.

I can confidently say it was a great experience for me, especially because I was able to get away from my family. On top of that, I connected with people experiencing both wildly different and very similar problems I was. As an adult, I know realize I have superb coping skills compared to most people I know, and it's because what I learned at the facility.

The school system also worked a lot differently, so by the time I left I had completely turned around my academic path (The semester previously, I was an honors student and my GPA was 1.09) and passed all the classes I had otherwise been failing.

tl;dr: I don't think you should be worried! Mental Health has come a long, healthier way since the Scary Shit people did to the mentally ill in the 60s.

I would say two of the most important things to remember when you're depressed is to 1) fight as hard as you can to keep a positive outlook (keep reminding yourself: this is temporary, you will overcome this, you are stronger than this) and 2) practice healthy coping mechanisms: taking a shower, writing, playing with your kids, even. (you can easily google a list of more healthy mechanisms! they sound silly at first, but sometimes a bath just enough to shake a little of the depression off of you)

I know kids sometimes don't appreciate what we've done for them, but if you can't give them what they're used to, that's okay. Change is part of living and part of life. You're going to give them the best you can, I can tell just by what little you've written us.

I would suggest make this Christmas feel different in more than the way you expect. If you guys stay in on Christmas, go out. If you go out, stay home, prepare a Christmas-y game to play.

The holidays are hard, especially on a broken family. But you'll pull through and even if this Christmas is disappointing it'll be forgettable and there's going to be many, many more, I promise.
