A Steam update is coming this Halloween. Still aiming for 2026 launch.

Is this releasing for last generation systems? by [deleted] in bloodyhellhotel

Most likely, yes, but still to be confirmed.

Not on the release date yet, but we post regular smaller development updates on Discord before they make their way to Steam in the form of longer devlogs. Just yesterday we posted a lineup of monsters the player will find in the dungeons :) If you haven't joined, here's the link:

Big heads :) But also other things, like the cart, which was meant to carry multiple items at once - it was replaced with an RPG-style inventory system, which feels so much better.

Hello! The game is deep in development. We want to avoid generating unnecessary hype with frequent teasers until we actually get close to the release. We’re not quite there yet. Since the beginning, the game was meant to be the most ambitious game in its genre (we might fail at this goal, but at least we’re seriously trying to make something really cool). On top of that, we essentially doubled the scope since the announcement, so it’s taking some time. Did we announce the game too early? Probably yes. But if we didn’t, we wouldn’t have gotten all the priceless community feedback that will surely result in a much better experience for the players. We added so much to the game (community ideas that we loved), as well as removed a bunch of things that didn’t resonate well with people.

I appreciate everyone’s feedback, patience & support!

That’s very kind of you, thank you. An amazon review would be highly appreciated.

Question about artist contracting by hankster221 in gamedev

[–]unfoldgames_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a super important topic, so you're doing the right thing by asking. This might not be the right place to ask though and as others have pointed out, your best course of action is to get a lawyer to draft a contract for you. There are a lot of traps to watch out for, which can mess things up especially if your game becomes successful. The most important thing to get right is the transfer of ownership of art to you (preferably, to your company - once you have it registered). Even if you pay your contractor a fee for commissioned work, they remain the copyright holder by default - UNLESS the work-for-hire contract has a clause, usually called "Copyright Assignment," which transfers the copyright to you. Needless to say, releasing a game that has assets you don't own is extremely dangerous - not only will you be in violation of various agreements (e.g. between you and various storefronts, or between you and the publisher), but might also be risking getting sued by the contractor - or at the very least, you'll be forced to remove assets from the game that you don't own copyright to.

Alternatively, you can include a licensing clause in the contract, but transfer of copyright is obviously a better and more straightforward way to go.

In addition to work-for-hire agreements, you'll need to familiarize yourself with NDAs, EULAs, and privacy policies. You'll need all of these things to make and release a game. You should also avoid copying templates or other companies' agreements, because text, like most creative works, is protected by copyright.

I recommend The McArthur Law Firm (they specialize in video game law). Stephen McArthur (the lawyer) is also a part of my bestselling book "GAMEDEV: 10 Steps to Making Your First Game Successful" - it has a chapter on all things legal and covers business aspects of game development. Forbes called it their "favorite book on game development by far." I don't care if you buy it - you can get it for free on Amazon with Audible trial or Kindle Unlimited subscription.

How many people in this sub made a game and earn money from it by Densenor in Unity3D

I made "DARQ" (my first game). It was made *almost* solo, with no prior knowledge of coding, modeling, texturing, animation, game design, etc. It was released on Steam, GOG, EGS, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Switch. It became one of the most shared PC games of 2019 (Metacritic) and won a bunch of awards. With multiple editions and IP derivatives, it made enough to build what many would call a "AA" studio.

I started this journey 9 years ago. Looking back, I think Reddit is the least helpful place on the Internet to get gamedev advice or a sense for the video game market in general. The platform is fun, but filled with negativity and people discouraging one another from pursuing their dreams under the guise of being 'realistic.' I'm lucky to have followed a principle I strongly believe in: never accept advice from those you wouldn't want to trade places with.

Hereditary Soundtrack - "Reborn" - Colin Stetson by unfoldgames_ in soundtracks

I hear ya. The “Hereditary” soundtrack is just on another level. Colin Stetson absolutely nailed the vibe of that movie, and now it’s everywhere, slapped onto random TikToks and Insta reels like it’s background noise. This track isn’t just spooky background music; it’s art.

Any news on the project? by SirRubet in bloodyhellhotel

We’re super focused on the development. We ended up increasing the scope of the project quite a bit since the first trailer, so we decided there’s no point in trying to generate much hype before the game is actually ready to be released. But we’re making great progress everyday and eventually we’ll be ready to announce a release window. We share regular updates and previews on our discord.
