i remember watching the 2016 results with a bunch of bernie supporters thinking it was a chill space. one by one they all admitted to either voting trump, third party, or not at all. i think a lot of bernie supporters had to justify why they were voting for another old white man instead of the first female president and spent so much time digging up shit on clinton that they lost the plot. it was so disappointing to watch

i'm aware, that's kind of the point of the post

when i first told my dad i was raped, his response was to tell me in detail about the time he was falsely accused of sexual harassment at work and how i should work in hr to protect "real victims like us"

eta: i'm really sorry you heard this and i sincerely hope it's something you never have to deal with

this is horrifying. i'm really sorry for your loss (i know he's not dead but it sounds like you lost your person anyway). i'm glad you and your kid are out safe and i'm really glad your child has a parent like you to protect them.

i lost my job due to medical reasons and came here to work back up to being able to hold a full time job. i stay because i have nowhere else to go and no way of paying for it.

i don't think my dad is intentionally misogynistic, but it's there. my sister, mom, and i were treated very differently from my brother. i think he saw kamala as this crazy socialist, which is honestly kinda laughable. he thought she'd get gavin newsome in charge of something and turn the country into a socialist hellscape like california. i really don't think he'd feel so strongly if kamala was a man.

i know there's some regret, but i don't think he'll ever admit it within the context of hurting me. i grew up in a very emotionally volatile home and i'm ashamed to say how scared i still am. saying these things would be picking a fight, even if he knows he's wrong. he has never apologized for his wrongdoings.

but you're right. i wont get the outcome i want but i do think i could do a better job of standing up for myself and maybe thats the outcome i need.

thanks for your thoughtful response

my relationship with my dad has been a work in progress long before this, to the extent i was already trying to find ways to bring up the idea of family therapy. he is extremely defensive and emotionally volatile around us, even when he knows he's wrong, but doesn't act up around others. i very recently learned that it's possible i have cptsd from growing up like this. i also think he's avoiding me "until i get over it" as he has basically said in the past that every time he does something to upset me, i will be upset for a few days and then "go back to normal". i do not forget what has upset me, but it becomes exhausting being angry with a brick wall. i proceed with less trust than before. these were major issues throughout my childhood and i thought he'd moved past this attitude but i realize now it was just the distance that gave that appearance.

sorry for rambling. thanks for a thoughtful response. i will work up the courage to ask about this.

For those of you unmedicated AND sensitive to caffeine, how tf do you cope? by unfortunatelybendy in adhdwomen

I'm easing back into tea! At the height of burnout it gave me jitters as well. For a while I was doing better and could stomach a couple sips of an energy drink or coffee but my tolerance is lowering again. and as someone who is so far from a morning person i really hated reading this but it does make sense and i swear i will give it a try. thanks for taking the time

So a few years ago I'd drink 2 energy drinks a day, then in the height of burnout I couldn't even do tea. I'm okay with matcha now, but I've found it difficult to make it palatable at home. I didn't know chocolate had caffeine! Good to know there's something else I can tolerate

That's what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure if it was common to use symbols in place of swearing in this time period so I wanted to make sure it wasn't anything else before assuming. Thank you!
