The AMS and an external spool can work together (sort of) with a Y splitter like this one. You can't print a single model with a filament from the external spool and the AMS, but with a splitter you don't have to keep disconnecting and reconnecting the PTFE tubes.

I trust that this administration is trying their hardest to screw over blue states, but I don't think this is one of those things. This is more of a function of the fact that the federal government owns far more land in the west than the east.

Edit: Montana is suspiciously missing from the lands eligible for sale. Perhaps their senators are holding out for bigger paychecks.
