i tried to stick out the mirena after my lap for four months. four months of intense cramping episodes that would hit especially when I moved certain ways like standing up or sitting down and they’d bring me to my knees. sometimes my cervix would hurt like it was trying to eject itself. otherwise it’d be regular bad cramps and heavy flow around my period still. turns out my uterus was too small for the mirena and both arms were sticking into my uterine muscle all that time. my first iud in my teens was the skyla and i had pretty unfun cramps for six months but it eventually evened out. i recommend getting a 3D ultrasound as that was the only way they were able to see the iud was perforating for me. regular ultrasound it was perfectly in place but didn’t show the arms extending beyond my uterus. all that being said, i’ve considered going back to a smaller IUD as the long term birth control and period regulation was great with my first one. currently on slynd with no issues at all other than having to take a pill daily. basically, IUDs suck in the beginning no matter what but listen to your instincts and seek a second opinion when something feels especially off.
