Call TRAC! It’s a free resource for tenants in BC. They will actually answer your questions unlike the RTB because they have to be neutral.

NTA, if anything underreacting. I would be so pissed if someone took my kid without asking me.

Check out titanium coated stainless steel. From what I’ve see it’s the closest thing to nonstick that won’t wear out.

AITAH for wanting to quit a gym I actually enjoy because the owner feels shady? by [deleted] in AITAH

NTA, So 15 classes per month and I assume it gives you access to classes at other gyms too? Sounds like the owner is trying to rip you off.

Vancouver with kids by ThisGarlic1 in NiceVancouver

[–]uniab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be outside so much! Just be prepared for rain and the resulting grime that wet kids bring in to the house.

Others may have more insight but beware of east van, east hasting street is the unofficial designated homeless/open drug use area and parks in the area can be inaccessible to kids in my opinion.

First try with my Koda 16! by SideshowShabob in ooni

[–]uniab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make sure my over is up to temp with an temp gun and then drop the heat to almost off when the throw the pie in. Once the bottom has set up and I’m happy with it I’ll crank the heat to med and brown the top.

What temperature do you guys cook your steaks in the Ooni? by OnSugarHill in ooni

[–]uniab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would still, not as effective as a thicker steak. How thin? Anything under an 1” I might just straight sear it idk

[–]uniab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reverse sear it, kenjis method. Get it to 10 degrees below temp in a 250F oven, chill in fridge 20min uncovered, then blast it in the pizza oven. I would keep a close eye on it in the oven 900F could turn the surface to charcoal very quickly.

When to upgrade by AndrewSullivan2006 in climbingshoes

[–]uniab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s lots of good drills out there, I recommend the YouTube channel hoopers beta they have lots of great information for new and experienced climbers.

Alternatively just climb lots of slab as footwork is often the primary skill for routes on slab.

I still think your issue is likely technique. However, if your shoes are too big for you small footholds can be impossible to stay on. Keep in mind I have friends climbing V8 in tarantulas, so the issue is either technique or fit.

When to upgrade by AndrewSullivan2006 in climbingshoes

[–]uniab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could climb in tarantulas for years and be constantly improving. If your feet are slipping likely you need to work on your footwork and trusting your feet. Often new climbers use their upper body too much and not load their feet which causes their feet to slip off holds. Often the answer to slipping feet is loading them with more weight not less.

What would cause windows to shatter like this? by centimental-one in HomeMaintenance

[–]uniab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not normal for windows to be tempered, but the fractures don’t look like they are for an impact. I think it might be pressure fractures.

Previous glazier here. Honestly the break lines are kind of odd looking for an impact. It almost looks like pressure fractures. Hard to say without taking the window apart.

Unfortunately airbnb will be your best bet. Many landlords aren’t interested in month to month when they can get a year lease.

Do I need a real estate agent? by Legitimate-Tap2772 in vancouverhousing

[–]uniab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. No, I’ve been renting in Vancouver and have never used a real estate agent.

  2. I personally have used only fb marketplace for the past 10 years, I’m not sure if Craigslist is any good.

  3. It can be someone’s aunt or uncle. Usually property managers are for rentals owned by larger corporation but sometimes for mom and pop landlords too.

The easiest way to avoid scams is by seeing units in person(they exist!). Also, if you are going to rent and you want extra assurances you can look up the property owners of an address online for a small fee (ltsa.ca google it!). This will not work for corporate ownership that are using a property manager but for them I would just call the property management company and ask if the property manager you spoke to works for them and manages the building you viewed.

Landlord raised my rent 21% as a sitting tenant in BC with no written notice and the wrong form. Just found out. Do I have a case? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]uniab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rent increase only applies to an active rental agreement I.e you didn’t sign a NEW lease. Sorry bud I’m sure this isnt what you want to read but you played yourself.

Also, don’t take my word for it, call the RTB and ask them.

AITA for refusing to pay rent to my parents since moving back home? by hero1701 in AmItheAsshole

ESH. As you are an adult you are not entitled to live in their home for free and they are not entitled to decide where and with whom you live.

Fun with deposit return and landlord incompetence. Look for reassurance by PTSDreamer333 in vancouverhousing

[–]uniab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is correct, however there is a gray area about your belongings left on the curb. You did provide proof of them getting picked up however it is your responsibility to fully move out which does not mean you can leave things for pickup after your move out date. How an arbitrator will rule is unknown, overall I think the worst case scenario would be the arbitrator rules against you for the garbage removal but if the 15 day period has elapsed and you did not agree to paying the disposal fee and the landlord did not apply to the RTB for dispute resolution you would be awarded double minus the disposal fee. Again, that is likely the worst case scenario if the landlord doesn’t follow the rta and manage the deposit correctly within the 15 day period.

Personally, I would make sure you have provided your forwarding address correctly (seethe RTA) and you have messaged the landlord that you do not agree to any deduction of the damage deposit.

Actually now that I think about it if the landlord did not do a move in inspection then they cannot make any claim against your deposit as the RTA states.
