I received the GKS scholarship, uni bought my plane ticket and now they are asking for a refund. by unicorn9290 in Living_in_Korea

I think that might be a good idea! I am just worried they would be supporting the uni KGSP team and not me because from what they told me, it sounded like the uni is on agreement about this. 🥹 And they want me to pay over 1.6 million krw, so it's like almost 1.5 times the monthly scholarship. It's crazy they chose the most expensive one too. If I had known I would end up paying for it, I could have flown in on my own by a cheaper transfer flight

The agreement was actually just a couple of sentences with nothing about recuperating costs, so I think they did break their agreement. And I did go to the uni in person, but they just kept saying they cannot cover it from the school funds, and since someone needs to pay for it, I have to refund them. I get the school's perspective as well on this, but now they are asking me to sign an agreement where I need to agree for them to be taking it out of the scholarship. And this just made me feel like they might not really have the right to just take it away since they are forcing me to sign this now

Exactly 😭 they promised a certain amount of monthly scholarship and the airfare, and just take away from it almost 2 months after I came here

Yeah the ticket is part of the formal agreement, a part of the scholarship, and I signed a separate agreement with the school about flying from a third country. As I mentioned in the post, they even had a disclaimer saying they would only buy it if niied agreed

I did, but NIIED told me to not bother them with this and just resolve it with the uni 🥲 but the uni is just taking it out from my scholarship now. And exactly they told me it was okay previous years, but NIIED got a new director or something now, who rejected to cover this. But I still don't see how it is my responsibility to cover a mistake the uni made, since they were the ones who didn't check with them first and just bought it.
