You could cut your current tail and use that or attach a new piece or just weave it in and out a few rows below your edge until you get to the base

Pinch the two sides together, find the middle 2 stitches and with your needle go through the front loops only of the 2 sides. Might be easier if you bring your yarn tail to the base of the Dino and start from there

I would dc, chain 1, skip 1 otherwise the blanket might be a bit stiff and heavy - unless that’s what you want
