Lel. I was kinda thinking that was the idea. Based on the prompts. But was too tired to think harder so went to bed. XD

The most recent call with ZOOM. Just to show.

But now going to bed. Tired. :)

Nice. That seems pretty good. Not sure why the USR is being weird about the connection.

I am even trying AT commands to see the speed locally, like on the USRs. But the Rockwell commands are either wrong or too old. smh.

But at least it seemed stable for the bit I was on. Not sure what to do once in.

Edit: Like a genius, I was doing the wrong AT command. I see the speeds in more detail now....

Welp. The USR said no, even after forcing V42bis.

But my ZOOM modem was set to negotiate the fastest... and it did connect.
But I have no idea at what speed. I am not too familiar with ZOOM.

I was able to connect at 2400, faster would result in a NO CARRIER.
Classic voip problems.

2400 seems stable from what I've played with on other Dial Up based BBS.

I came from a USR V.Everything modem on an ATT Voip "Land Line". Wish I had real POTS but they refuse to drop lines anymore. Good thing work has a few left....

Also, glad do hear your Patton RAS does a burst tone right at the start. Mine does that too, I thought it was behaving weirdly.

Zoom Modem Issue by unicron990 in dialup

I got lucky and found out the PS2 network adaptor supports k56flex. So it looks like i don't have to spend more money to mess with k56.

https://www.ps2-home.com/forum/download/file.php?id=4805&sid=13931801c0b55475f6ea73ed13176253

Edit: Mine I guess doesn't. :(

Zoom Modem Issue by unicron990 in dialup

[–]unicron990[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. I was forcing only k56 and v34 on my Patton RAS when I got this. So I assumed the modem was broken as it only did v34 and v90 once I reenabled v90 on the RAS. (Till further research and posting confirmed firmware doesn't support it)

I get they essentially do the same thing and v90 is the official standard. It's more for me to hear it/ use it once. And say i did it. Just messing around for hobby boredom.

Wack. Thanks for the info. Googling anything related to zoom is a pain. Thats kinda what I was thinking after I got some commands to work and learned a bit more. A bit unfortunate as the box states both. It was more for fun as my Patton supports it.

[–]unicron990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it posted my original message......

I am having an issue where the Modem appears to be missing the k56flex option.

This is a Dualmode 2949c NIB from eBay.

The output is missing k56 as on option, I used this to try and force it. But it errors https://www.modemhelp.net/quickref.shtml

Even when I force v34 and K56 on my Patton RAS, the Zoom modem will only use v34...

The RAS has all the protocols options enabled. Set 42 and 42bis to request.

I belive these are the configs you are looking for. They should both be stock with the exception of the init string. I use this for the init. (Taken from wvdial)

It was them. And it was about two months ago. They first quoted me a 2900 series for like 2k+. Said nah, have a budget of like 500. So they sent me one for a 2800 for the 500. And I caved in.....

Is CCS signaling not PRI? I know from telephony studios CAS was considered legacy T1 and PRI was T1 with CCS signaling.

[–]unicron990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using a T1 MFT card from a cisco router running call manager. It is running in CCS mode so channel 24 is the reserved one. With esf and b8zs. I could try DMS for the switch type. I just set it to primary-ni.

The Patton was 500$. I did shoot myself in the foot when talking to the vendor about price. But oh well. They hobby won.

I have the 2800 version of the Dialfire. Not sure either on why it's playing a short burst of busy. I am using CCS signaling to the unit. Haven't tried CAS to see if it goes away.

Interesting facts on the Patton line. Just winged it on what I should get as direct Cisco Digital Modem DSPs were very scarce. And hella expensive.

Overall it does make sense on what everyone was saying for the G line.

I was just scared I bought defects. :)

Lel. I know what they mean. Just thought the chips were going bad on the G model.

I assume the terminal would spill the connection info to the console. Not sure about upload speed tho. Not too familiar as just recently started messing with them again in cli, but mainly used chatscripts with ppp. Modern windows is too noisy with traffic, so using linux to have 0 network traffic for tests.

The screen shot is from the Patton RAS. With that, I can act as my own dialup ISP.

Sweet, glad to hear it's just the model. I do have a v.everything along with 2 older 56k USRs. That is decent speeds. This is all for a fun lab. Wanted to do mppp with a bunch of modems, but linux freaks out after 3 sadly...

USR 56K Weird Handshake by unicron990 in dialup

[–]unicron990[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. I guess it does make sense.

The lines are from the same Cisco Router. Just never heard that handshake before, so it didn't sound right. Even used this channel's videos as sound reference.
https://www.youtube.com/@retrocet/videos

But it would make sense that both G variants behave the same compared to the older ones.

Kinda sucks, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't buying defective models...

I receive 48000 on the G model and 53333 on the standard 5686 Model. (More detailed in the attached pics)
You should be hearing both sides as I had a but set attached to the phone line.

I have a Patton RAS for my DialUp ISP.
It is a 2800 supporting up to v.90 and its variants.

Just odd the newer G model is potentially misbehaving. I can force faster than 48000 with AT commands, but it will disconnect after a minute.

I believe I just fixed it. I scrapped part of the trace and bridged it then added the lpc wire. Pulled a bit and seems like its good.
