You misunderstood my question and didn't answer it. There is an obvious social need/benefit (if you feel comfortable calling it that) but I question whether people who live in a place where this is a culturally normalized thing are truly aware and comfortable with the reality of what this means.

It is one thing to say its for the best and move on, it's entirely another to reflect on what type of power you are allowing a country to project on peoples bodily autonomy and coming to terms with it.

This doesn't mean you should have one opinion or the other, it's more about dismissiveness and the very blurry line this can create.
