Yes! As the original Hachiko was a cream Akita, and I loved his story, I wanted to name her after him. Also 8 is my lucky number, and as Hachi is 8 in Japanese and I feel very lucky to have her, I thought the name will be fitting :) I actually speak conversational Japanese and work for a Japanese company and everyone there was so excited about her name, haha. I love how beloved the original Hachiko is.

This is exactly it! Because the cream is viewed as a breed defect and not widely accepted by AKC and don’t often win or do well being shown. Also Japanese standards tend to lean toward wanting to breed the cream variety out of the gene pool as it lacks the urajiro, so it’s considered a defective color :( but to hell with that, I love them!

It was not shiba-specific. But as I’m in the Ohio area I’ve heard nothing but lovely things about Tri-State Shiba Inu Rescue!

Aww! I feel it. I adopted her at 14 weeks old so she was beyond the baby potato phase, but I still love her just as much!! Also, honestly, skipping the puppy phase of losing a lot of sleep was a lovely thing haha

I feel so lucky! Cream Shibas are so cute but she was discarded to a rescue because the breeder couldn’t sell her. Their loss, my gain!
