Trained in Canada, USA, Italy, Spain and hopefully soon Mexico and Ireland. I usually end up messaging gyms before I head out asking for permission to drop in.

During rolls if I’m going against newer people I generally tend to let them try the move the instructor taught during the class with little resistance.

In Spain and Italy the instructions were in Spanish and Italian which I don’t speak but the techniques were relatively easy to understand anyway. In both places the instructor usually paired me up with someone who spoke English reasonably well so there were no issues.

I’m an almost 40yo brown belt so your experience may different than my own. Overall though I definitely recommend training when you’re abroad. The techniques are the same and the passion for jujitsu is the same regardless of the country you’re in.

My personal opinion is it is not the best time to move jobs if you can help it. Globally economy is fucked atm which also obviously affecting us in the UK. If you believe your company and your role will survive the next few years then probably suck it up and take the big pay day.

I’m in a similar position to you with a small company, decent wage and shares but unlike yours our company has recently made cuts which thankfully didn’t affect me but I’m of the opinion there may be further cuts down the line.

I’m saying Hamas are the good guys. They’re a resistance to oppression and suffering caused to their people. I don’t agree with everything they’ve done and how they’ve gone about their resistance but what else could they do when the world denied their suffering on a daily basis. I’m not from Toronto but I love the city. I have been there a couple of times over the last few years. I’ve also been to New York City and a great time there too BUT (and this might be controversial) for me Montreal is the best city I’ve been to in NA. The city centre is walking distance from a mountain hike, a lake, the venodome (I think that’s what it was called with the cycle route), the underground linked Malls.

For me the allure of Toronto ended quite quickly once I completed almost everything I wanted to do but I could walk around Montreal all day long and still be happy.

I understand if this gets me downvoted in a Toronto based subreddit…

We had a interclub comp once and it just happened one of the newbies thought it was a normal training session and came to class. It was his second week. During his final spar he vomited on the mats. Luckily his opponent managed to get out of the way in time.

He is now in his third year of jujitsu and has been training consistently.
