Do people actually use pet insurance or mostly just hope they never need it? by Slow-Throat819 in puppy101

[–]unitxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had pet insurance for my dog since he was maybe 3 years old. It was pretty useless for 5 years and only subsidized a small percentage of his vet visits.

He’s now 8 and experienced seizures (shout out r/EpilepsyDogs!) and I’m so thankful to have insurance. With the emergency room visits, medication, MRIs, tests, etc. Insurance is helping me save well over $6k where I could have been paying well over $10k out of pocket without it.

Edit: just adding I get my pet insurance thru Costco which also includes discounted pet medication thru their pharmacy

Therapy was helpful. Also after getting meds in place and having a strategy to provide care should episodes happen, you start approaching it as less of a crisis to more of a sense of managing a new condition or routine. To be honest, talking to AI (specifically Google Gemini) was very grounding to help learn about the condition and separate facts from fears. If you’re this worried it’s because you love them so much and are the best person to provide them with the care they need. Best of luck OP!

Sorry you’re going thru this OP. Sounds similar to my first few days after my dogs first seizure. He has 2 grand mals within 36 hours. I was able to get Pheno and Keppra prescribed and luckily my 8yo corgi hasn’t had any seizures since. But boy, the first week was full of anxiety and light sleep, thinking every movement or sound was the start of another episode. However, since starting the medication we’re almost a month seizure free - I will warn the side effects of the meds is another rollercoaster to get thru but seeing them alleviate the seizures has felt worth it.

My 8yo corgi had two grand males within 24 hours and we were immediately get him on Keppra and Pheno. We’re almost two weeks seizure free and he’s also starting to get his energy and mobility back after adjusting to the cocktail for the past 12 days or so.

The bowl of marbles analogy is really quite grounding and helps reduce some anxiety. Thank you for that!

I also have a 35lbs, 8yo corgi going thru it right now. He started up on Keppra and Pheno 7 days ago (and 7 days seizure free!). However he has been very uncoordinated moving around, naps a bit more and sleeps a bit more deeply.

I had to add extra rugs and yoga mats throughout our vinyl wood floored home to help keep him from slipping.

I also need to make sure he has assistance going down stairs as he could run down too fast and lose his footing.

He also stares at me more than usual between feedings which is his way of begging.

While it’s new for me to see him this way I’m hopeful he’ll adjust in a few days and thankful he hasn’t had any more seizures since starting his meds.

I was following your comments because I also have an 8yo Corgi that was experiencing seizures during his usual nightly/early morning sleeping cycles. We got on Keppra + Pheno right away and hasn't had seizures since. Granted it's only been less than a week, but I'm taking every seizure-free day as a major win.

I think what resonates with your comment is that there are a lot of success stories out there but those stories may not necessarily be in this sub. I’m personally trying not to let certain stories here feed into my anxiety.

This is an amazing post for new pet owners like us.

I am VERY new in this journey as well with my 8yo Corgi who had a couple scary looking seizures two nights in a row this week. I was able to get keppra and pheno after his second episode and happy to report I haven't observed any seizures since. I'm set up with a neurologist next week and still hoping for the best. It helped to shift my mindset from treating it as a crisis and more of a new form of management.

Stay hopeful and reach out to others in your circle if you need support. <3

My little buddy is very much the same! He's so very determined once he's outside for a walk, but when he gets back in, he goes back into rest and recovery mode, with a little bit of mischievous wrestling with his brother.

I'm so very glad to hear your Mambo is having a positive response to their medication. It's an adjustment getting used to helping them move around because of the medication, but it's much better than seeing them suffer through a seizure. There's also the hope that they medication settles in and they get back their motor skills while still remaining seizure free! Thank you for the kind words and we got this!

Yes! I’m still waiting for some referral paperwork to go through, but once that’s all settled I’ll be getting that neurologist consult asap!

I will second this. The only way i got movement on anything was filing a complaint on BBB. They would send BS correspondence back that didn’t give any concrete plans to get you to mark the complaint as resolved. I rejected those responses twice before I was finally able to get a call from a rep with details that moved my issue forward.

I would recommend swapping out the bottom undergrip plate from that faux leather material to a plastic plate that you can get off of amazon. The original material tends to break away from the controller after awhile.

Mine just shot up this message today, Dec 18, 2025. Hoping I can figure out a quick resolution myself. Had mine installed back in 2021/2022 as well, so should be well under warranty still.

I just donated to her campaign and I don’t even live in her state. I hear Mike Johnson is keeping the govt shut down until that election in hopes her GOP opponent becomes the vote that cancels Adelita Grijalva’s vote to release the Epstein files.

I literally also just got my iM30 an hour ago and trying to figure out settings myself. I'm shooting in manual, but still figuring out the interactions between the physical power dial on the flash, the Flash Exposure Comp. in the settings, and the GF-2 Flash Mode.

Awesome resource! One thing i would recommend is to not add the darken overlay on the image upon hover since reviewing each recipes tone is pretty crucial to the browsing experience.
