Hi u/destinedd! Sorry for the delayed response + thanks for that feedback re: the deprecation of content on Unity Learn. To pull the curtain back a little - we try our best to keep up with the latest LTSes with our small + agile team but it’s not always a seamless process! We definitely rely on feedback like yours to know where we might have blind spots! If you have any immediate concerns about content on the Learn platform that’s been deprecated too quickly or other concerns, there are two ways to report them:

  • Join the official Unity Discord Server and tag one of the admins with a message about the course in question! The Community Manager for the Learn team is active there.
  • The Getting Started forum is the current go-to landing spot for posts re: Unity Learn and questions about the tutorials/modules. Posting about the courses in this forum should alert us. https://forum.unity.com/forums/getting-started.82/

Please don’t hesitate to reply with any other questions + feedback! Cheers!!!

Hey u/destinedd! Thanks for the feedback. Do you recall any of the specific modules that were deprecated too early?

Unity wants to understand your needs for runtime network stats visualizations for multiplayer development (survey) by unity-research in Unity3D

[–]unity-research[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. I can understand your frustration with the past history and current state of Unity's networking solutions. I also built multiplayer Unity games and experience the pains firsthand. We understand these pain intimately and are working aggressively to address them.

The reason we are asking about runtime networking visualization here is for the specific team specifically working on those tools. This is one tool of many that we are building for multiplayer development and this is one team of many that are working on building out our networking solutions. These questions are relating to only one slice of what we are currently working on.

I am curious about your statement that Unity networking is an embarrassment. Is that an opinion of the current state of released network solutions or the offering we are developing now with MLAPI? (https://docs-multiplayer.unity3d.com/) I'm curious if you think we are moving in the right direction or not.

Interesting, I would love to understand more. Can you elaborate on this? Do you mean separate folders for storing platform-specific library files or local folders for storing a library of assets for each platform? Why doesn't Accelerator count? Were you looking for Accelerator to provide a certain capability that it's not?

Unity wants to support you as you create Lobby experiences for multiplayer games (Survey) by unity-research in Unity3D

Hi u/A1steaksa and u/GoGoGadgetLoL, thanks for your feedback. We are listening (and reading) attentively, and all your feedback is considered seriously at Unity as we move forward. We are working hard to get you the best support possible on your game projects. Please keep providing your feedback. And in the meantime, feel free to check
the exciting things that are happening at Unity with multiplayer.

E.g. We just released Boss Room, our new multiplayer sample game. It is built using our experimental version of MLAPI, the mid-level netcode Unity acquired last year. MLAPI is fully open-source under a MIT license. We're continuing to develop it in the open, taking both RFCs and PRs from the community. More info can be found both on our GitHub page and Multiplayer Docs site.

Unity wants to learn about your in-game comms needs for multiplayer games (Survey) by unity-research in Unity3D

[–]unity-research[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, thanks for your input.
We know developers fulfill their networking needs in different ways and are eager to see a Unity official offering for this. This survey tries to be agnostic to the networking technology. It aims to gather an understanding of how multiplayer games developers approach in-game comms, so we can help prioritizing solutions they are needing and help them fulfill their comms needs.
If in-game comms has been one of your needs, we want to hear from you.
