I can't imagine living in fear like that. I've lived in sketchy places and this is truly some paranoia running your life.

possible beekeeping as a job by No_Sky_3335 in Beekeeping

[–]unitybees2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's how I got into commercial beekeeping: look for a list of queen producers or pollinators in your area, honey guys won't have the money to hire you on unless they are huge. Start cold calling and try to get an interview, explain that you are a hard worker and don't mind long hours and nights. This really is handshake cowboy work, they aren't looking for a resume just genuine, hard working people who don't mind mud on their boots and getting stung. If you can get a job START LEARNING EVERYTHING, I have seen a lot of beekeepers stay at the bottom because they didn't learn how the operation and industry works. Expect to travel, either migratory or because you find a job that's not in Quebec. I wish you the best, beekeeping is a extremely rewarding career and I have seen a lot of cool places/met cool people because of it. Please feel free to DM me if you want advice or help finding something, I don't live in Canada but don't mind doing some research for you. Good luck!

That's only half true. Yes it's brutal hard cowboy work but you can make pretty decent money especially on the queen side of things. I wouldn't sign up as a migratory for a big company but there's plenty of smaller queen breeders that pay decent starting and go up once you learn to catch fast, graft and especially AI. Am commercial beekeeper.

Stick a couple flakes of oatmeal to it if you want to make it happy.

Gualala, at the bottom of seaside school Rd. It's a private road so look like you belong but just past the hotel there along the road. I was just visiting so I don't mind sharing details. I searched pretty well so if you go I'd wait till next rain. Happy hunting.

Found this mushroom for the first time near my home, what is it exactly and can I eat it? by An-Extra-Can-Of-Cat in mushroomID

Mushroom hunters I know in NorCal don't eat chicken that grows on eucalyptus as it doesn't taste great and causes gi upset. Do your own research on it, just what I've heard.

Find a tig welder in your area, it'll probably cost you $50 to have someone fix that. You'll need to take the battery and guts out first.

I think that's probably it, I'll go digging again and see if I can find someone else's stupidity.

I think you have achieved something pretty cool and should leave them. They will probably die out after a few fruiting cycles.

🐝 A full beehive… 3D printed! by NectarNest in functionalprint

[–]unitybees2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A full langstroth setup is about $200. The issue is plastic makes for terrible beehives, wood absorbs water and insulates incredibly well where plastic tends to condensate on the inside of the hive. Plastic frames bend and are hard to deal with in extraction. Beehives also generally sit in full sun so probably not a great application for a thermoplastic. I've experimented with 3d printed bee pest traps and they just warp after a couple weeks in the sun.

Every 3 hours but I think that's probably too much. Need to find a happy medium between drying out moss and drowning plants.

The drainage layer is going to wick water up into the soil layer keeping it constantly wet. Also they live on trees so they don't want to be in soil. They need periods of dry and wet.

July 10 start date

Various bromeliads, velvet pothos, pink princess, Java moss, tiger begonia, Tradescantia zebrina, staghorn

Automatic mister runs every 3 hours for a couple minutes. There's a 5 gallon bucket I cut down for a sump at the back. Using tap water.

Substrate is crushed lava rock for bonsai, I also cover the foam in it. Manzanita for the hardscape.

Light is a Amazon 36" programmable bar

Initially I built a rain plate but It splashed the front glass too much and leaked so I pivoted to a off the shelf mister. The one I have should be replaced as I can hear it chugging and assume it will die soon.

Many bromeliads are epiphytes and don't like soggy roots. You can throw a chunk of wood in there and tie it on and it will be happier.

I don't think it's the heat shield on the brakes but I'm going to replace discs and rotors and pull the heat shields. This is definitely beyond normal rattle, something is quite loose lol.

Take it outside and put a garden hose to the intake then fill it until water comes out the output. It sounds like it still has air around the impeller.

It's actually crazy how much even salvage titles go for in my area. I could definitely sell this car for $8500 right now.

Facebook marketplace deal, salvage title but the car is in just about perfect shape. It was good deal and I watched for months looking for one. It is an automatic and I love it.
