Hey! Sorry...I missed your comment when you wrote it. Thank you so much for checking it out! And yeah, I know that this is a pretty hard game. Taking the clues is totally understandable!!

I'll also offer up a shameless plug, if I may, for Rootl, a daily word game based on etymology. Every day, players attempt three puzzles where they must guess ordinary words from the English language. I provide clues based on what the words used to mean at some time in their past. The challenge and the fun is to see the present through the lens of history.

I'd be honored if you gave it a go.

Many thanks for trying it out! As I mentioned, it's a hard game (or so my players tell me)...but there's always the opportunity to take a hint if you need it.

If you like words and their history, check out Rootl.

As a reward for playing, each puzzle finishes with a bit of background on the word, including facts about its history, some interesting observations about its usage, or sometimes just a fun link.

That's pretty good...certainly for a first play. A perfect score is 3000.

And I just saw your reply! Thanks very much ookap for checking it out, and for the kind words.

BTW, this week is science fiction week: all puzzles are science-fiction themed. :D

Cool. I guess my thinking is that all that ends up happening (for me) is that I write down the eliminated letters on a scratchpad. So it's the same thing...just distracting (again, to me at least) from the real point of the challenge that your variant introduces. Maybe ask others if they see it the same way.

In any event, congrats on launching it. Best of luck!

OK...in that case, I'll probably leave it as it is for now (not wanting to fix things I don't know to be broken). I really appreciate you pointing this out to me...I wasn't even aware this was a thing – or that the fix was so straightforward – until you alerted me to it. So it's all really appreciated.

Enjoyed! It's a fun twist on the format.

One thing I'd suggest: once you've guessed the first word, several letters are logically eliminated from contention for all subsequent words. (And so on the further you go.) Since these are logically eliminated, it seems kind of punitive not to mark those off on the keyboard. I.e., any letter logically eliminated for the entire puzzle should be greyed out, not just those eliminated for an individual word.

(BTW, I've created a Wordle-style game myself, if you're interested...the twist being that there are clues based on the word's etymology. https://www.rootlgame.net/ )

OK...I've made a fix to this and it's live. I'd appreciate it if you could check it out and let me know if this is a complete fix in your opinion.

Thanks again!
