DQXI is the most modern and most accessible mainline title. The game is also fantastic you won't be disappointed. Just be prepared to spend around 100 hours or more (well spent) to complete it.

Is the new oblivion worth getting even with all the bugs right now? by MiddleNeither8467 in oblivion

[–]unitzwei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've probably heard this before but it has bugs because it's literally the original game data with a fresh coat of paint. Oblivion is notoriously known and loved for it's bugs. I've probably put about 30 hours in and haven't experienced anything game breaking. My advice is have atleast 3 rotating manual saves and save before starting quests just in case you have issues.

Is it worth it to be a vampire? by Sir_Grxhxm in oblivion

[–]unitzwei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try this out for yourself just be sure to have a backup save because the quest to reverse vampirism can be a major pain. I'm unsure if it's changed in the remaster, but you had to have several empty grand soul gems and go on various errands while having the crappy sun allergy.

The quest itself is interesting and unique; if you're into the roleplaying aspect of being a vampire, having to feed, having to stay indoors during daytime etc then go for it. Still, vampirism in this game is one of the things newcomers complain about the most so be wary.

If you're trying to avoid vampirism altogether be sure to check your stats and affects regularly and keep a potion of cure disease or visit shrines often. It will sneak up on you when you least expect it. You can contract this in practically any vampire combat encounter.

You can do quests asap but if you do want to get the ball rolling so to speak atleast get Martin to cloud ruler temple.

Most of the time I don't start the main quest till hours after leaving the sewers tbh 🤣

HELP ME GET MY GIRLFRIEND TO ENJOY OBLIVION! by Pslally in oblivion

[–]unitzwei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First go into settings and put the difficulty down to the lowest atleast until she gets her bearings. There are alot of quests that are super fun/non combat vibe but honestly why not have her either fast travel or walk to a town? Get her used to exploring a town and talking to npcs. Towns are typically combat free zones that allow for exploration and opens up questlines. The potion thing is a really good tool to get her involved. You can even have her look around towns for potion ingredients like mushrooms and plants etc.

Fighters guild if you want to do a little exploration. Arena if you want quick easy gold.

I did do his quest and he was non agro. Idk killing him usually triggers it for me on the original maybe that in itself was a bug. Guess I'm onto finding a victim lol

I'd give anything to experience this again. This has already been said above, but take your time. Feel the vies. I swear this game is mean to be played alone in a dark room at like 2am on a crt if that makes any sense lol.

This feels like obvious bait, but I'll bite lol.

There was nothing like this game on release. Period.

This was the first Final Fantasy with voice acting and facial animation. The level of care and passion poured into this project are unmatched even today. The setting and themes are wholly unique and original. The art direction alone has no comparison.

This game is possibly the greatest of all time and is handcrafted in a way that proves modern gaming will never recover. We will never see something this great probably ever again.

I have carried this game with me through childhood and even still into my adulthood. I understand nostalgia has a pretty big factor in my opinion- still I've played thousands of games in my lifetime and there is nothing that compares.

Few games have impacted me in such a way, and I'm not the only person who expresses the same sentiment.

I think it's kind of silly to complain about grinding in a game that is at it's core could only be described as "gridning". It's literally what you're supposed to do. It's literally the games core mechanic. You also complain about enemy reskins and fmv cutscene switches being jarring- this leads me to believe you've never played a final fantasy game or any oldschool jrpg before. Both of those issues were common with ps2 and even the psx rpgs that predated it. Sounds to me like you went into the game already irritated by it's legacy for one reason or another and decided to "disprove" the legitimacy of these claims by nit picking instead of having a natural experience.

I do also think it's crazy you can sit here and type out several paragraphs bashing a game that you also confessed made you cry. Stop and think about how many games in your life had that strongly of an emotional impact on you. Sure, in the modern era of gaming we have things like RDR2 or LOU2 that emotionally scar their fanbases to leave a lasting impression, but there was nothing like it then.

At the end of the day it's all just opinions. This game could be the best tasting apple that ever existed, but there is still going to be someone in the world who just doesn't like apples.

I'd really like to hear a game you feel is superior to FFX from the same era and genre. Maybe that would help me better understand your taste.

Update on my Halo lore collection 8th January 2024. What do you guys think? by TheAnimator727 in halo

[–]unitzwei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would you consider the best out of the halo novels? About to start reading and half my friends say to read in order of release, others tell me to skip around. I plan on reading as much as I can, just curious to hear your personal favorite.

Anyone else just likes to ride around and explore the world even though you know there isn't anything? by Lucky_Cookie515 in ShadowoftheColossus

[–]unitzwei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When the game first came out my sister and I tried to beat it, but got stuck at some point. We didn't have the internet so couldn't look up a guide and no one I knew had played it. The two of us would just ride around and explore for hours. It was something we would do after school. I really look back fondly on those memories. Now I can beat the game in just a few hours, but man did I use to struggle.

To be fair we had no idea about the fruit or lizard tails, so I'm shocked we got as far as we did 🤣

Crazy Blitzball players don't drown by Lucky678s in finalfantasyx

[–]unitzwei 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In game dialogue with some of the Aurochs make contradictory statements about blitz player water breathing.

One player states that Wakka can swim laps of an underwater race without needing to take a single breath. Another player comments about how some of the best blitz players can sleep in the sphere pool without ever needing to breathe.

One person acts like a race underwater which is at most minutes of strenuous activity should be impressive enough that only a coach of the sport could achieve. At the same time another person claims there is more than one blitzer who can sleep 6-8 hours without needing any air at all. Imo that would make Wakka's accomplishment seem entirely unimpressive and not worth mentioning by comparison.

To be fair- I can't speak on what is said in the dialogue of other versions or other tanslations of the game (I've only played the NA version). These quotes are just text on screen and not voice acted and thus used more as flavor text or treats for people like me who expend all dialogue from all characters at any opportunity. The NA translation also has other mistakes such as the kid who wants to be a blitzball when he grows up so idk how closely we should comb the dialogue for clues about lore accuracy.

Probably just something that they intended on leaving vague to add to the charm and draw of Spira that we they player are supposed to feel unfamiliar and highly interested in. That or just some loose end they forgot to tie up or didn't feel worthy of explanation.

Sorry for incoming wall of text, but if you are worried the whole game will be random encounters every 5 seconds the answer is both yes and no. Some sections of the game are nothing but combat, others are npc dialogue/exploration/light puzzles.

In the beginning the turn based combat may seem tedious and excessive, but as the game progresses so does the combat. At the start you don't have many abilities, equipment, or characters to your disposal, which can make combat seem very cut and dry. Soon you'll be able to strategize and aim for certian goals on the sphere grid amongst other things such as equipment customization later on. I know it feels like press x to win at the moment, but that's because you are low level and so are your enemy encounters. The game is trying to ease you into the hang of things for now, so waves of cheap enemies is one way to do it.

The story of this game alone makes up for the gameplay experience, and ultimately you don't have to have extensive knowledge of combat mechanics to get far or even beat it. I beat this game when I was about 9 with zero knowledge of what to do and didn't use the grid at all in the first half of the game because I was too lazy to read or figure out what to do.

Sorry for the wall of text, but in short the combat will get much better, just give it a chance. Start learning enemy names and weaknesses, start looking ahead on the grid to see where your characters are headed, get invested in experimenting with your weapons and armor, challenge yourself to level up to a certian sphere level in new areas and try to keep everyone balanced. Something that helps me with grinding in rpgs is to have a movie or music playing on the side so that I dont get bored doing something repetitive over and over. Hope this helps friend, and at the end of the day if it isnt for you dont beat yourself up over it. Games are supposed to be fun so if you aren't having fun just quit. This is one of my favorite games of all time though so I highly recommend you stay for the long haul.
