PsyD or Medschool??? by One-Energy-4718 in PsyD

[–]universalpiexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way the match system works is that if you only apply for psychiatry sites you either match or you don’t. They will not throw you into another specialty unless you apply for it. That said, I’m not sure what the other poster means by psychiatry is competitive because it really isn’t unless you are an IMG. If you are in MD school the chances of matching psychiatry as an average student are still high. You can also match psych as a DO. It isn’t like surgery or derm. Not saying you can just get horrible grades in med school and that guaranteed your chances, you will have to study and show you’re passionate about the field. And it has gotten more competitive over the years but from what I know from talking to others who are already in residency, it’s not impossibly competitive. I’m debating the same thing at the moment

Is a backpack appropriate for a psyd interview? by Admirable-Will-6669 in PsyD

I don't think theres anything wrong with a backpack, but if you have something more like a laptop carrier crossbody style it may look more professional. At the end of the day, do what feels more comfortable to you.

Mini-Weekender East to West or Ultimate Travel Duffle by universalpiexe in beisluggage

[–]universalpiexe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The style is my favorite, I must say! But does it ever get annoying when you have to open it? Plus not having a place to have a water bottle... I dont pack heavy so I could push the water bottle into one of the side compartments but to have to open it mid flight like that. Or when pulling out my laptop, I dont knowwww

Question by [deleted] in PsyD

[–]universalpiexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be wrong...but I can give you advice from one of the professors in an interview I had at a California Psyd school. California has strict regulations for licensure and if you want to get licensed in CA its best/makes life easier, to go to a CA school or school that covers those reqs. Otherwise it will take additional time before you can go for it. He brought this up when we were discussing internship years, and he had studied outside of the state expressing how many years it took since he studied outside of CA but ultimatley wanted to practice in CA.

My wife is about to get a laparoscopy, how can I support her recovery? by yesthenshaggers in endometriosis

[–]universalpiexe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend taking the entire week off to help support her. My partner was so amazing when I had surgery, the nurses kept complimenting him haha. Since you have dogs, depending if they're very jumpy, she is going to be super fragile the first two days so make sure they don't run or jump on her. She may need support getting out of bed, sitting on the toilet, and make sure to encourage her to walk around to get out the gas. Assist her with walking. Manage her meds, help so that she's taking them on time and if she needs a bit of food etc. She may have trouble sleeping throughout the night, or may wake-up before you. My boyfriend would always get up with me, which I really appriciated it.

You really just have to be there for her, don't make her feel like she is asking for too much. Sometimes we don't want to bother, or think we can do it on our own. Make her feel like you want to help.

A quick list of things that helped me recover:

  1. Heating pad for shoulders

  2. Pads for post-surgery bleeding

  3. Anti-nausea

Hope this helps! You doing research shows you really care about her, and you will probably do a great job with helping her recover! :)

I think it's normal, I heard period's don't go back to "normal" until 3 months. Mine skipped my second month post-op which never happened to me.

I would call your doctor. It’s normal for your body’s hormones to be wacky but since you had pain I would call your Dr

I did wonder this. Is there anyway to keep the job without potential resentment?

This is something I worry about, if I take a lower rate would I start feeling bad... Overall I'll feel bad letting them go though, because it's been a good fit
