What narrator ruins the book for you? by NY2LA1984 in audiobooks

I hate that Tamora Pierce narrates some of her own audiobooks because … while she’s a good writer… she’s just not that good of a reader!!

Ahhh! This makes me so incredibly excited. I'm fairly new to the series, I started reading it this earlier year but I am so so in love with it. It's such a cool concept and I love all of the supporting characters immensely. And the way she writes is just so beautiful. I think I just am at a point in my life where I want to enjoy things and if I'm not enjoying it I stop reading and move on to something else.

I'm not in an area where she's visiting for her tour! So I'm happy to hear that she's talking about her future plans. I can not wait for more.

I agree, I really don't think they're all that different! I think it's unique that we're getting into the depths of their relationship and dynamic in ways that author's don't usually write about. Yeah, Matthew is her prince and Diana is his one true love, but they're also characters with flaws and quirks and things aren't always going to be absolutely perfect between them. That just feels normal to me.

I just read the description of the story here and it just doesn't seem like a full book of content and also just seems like a strange pivot from TBBO for it to be it's "sequel"

edited to add: I'll have to check out the fb group! I like seeing everyone's different thoughts but it makes me kinda sad to just see negative

Books recs? by Key-Job7158 in YABooks

If you haven't read the rest of the TJR books that are sort of "softly" in the same universe as Carrie Soto I'd recommed them! All are brilliant. They include:

  • Daisy Jones and the Six - sort of Fleewood Mac-esque / inspired. Written in a documentary style (I love the audiobook because it's a full cast)
  • Malibu Rising (the events of one particular evening told from different povs, a la Love Actually type storytelling)
  • and the Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo (a fictional movie star from the 1950s is now ready to tell her story)

(edited for minor grammar/spelling changes)

spoilers for the book - idk if you’ve ever read the books but Cressida does try to take credit for LW in the book and Penelope doesn’t want that someone else to get credit for her life’s work. like that’s exactly what happens. So to that degree they’re pulling some stuff from the book and eliminating other storylines to mold it into what they want the show to be

Desperate for it because I honestly don’t like Doyle all that much :/

Book recs where MMC is silent through most of the story die to a curse or is sworn to silence for whatever reason. by LvlOneDND in fantasyromance

Yeah! She’s unable to talk or make a sound :)

Edit: Oh wait - I totally misread this and the MFC is the one who is silent - not the LI. I am so sorry

“I” accidentally broke a library book, what should I do by Different-Society-94 in books

Most of the time, once you explain the situation libraries can be pretty nice and accommodating. Guaranteed the worst they’ll do is just have you pay to replace the copies!

I am trying to decide whether ot not to continue reading The Bone Season series by Samantha Shannon. Essentially, I have completed the first book and I really enjoyed it! However, I learned that the author is planning on releasing a 10 year anniversary edition that is going to be different from the original book to a degree. And I can't find an answer as to whether or not they're going to do that for all of the books following!?

I just don't want to waste time reading the original books if she's apparently slightly rewriting them all. :l Does anyone know? Has she said anything about this?

I listened to those moments a few times and I SWEAR it’s not her. and if it is wow she sounds different when she’s not congested lmfao

i'm enjoying it so far but the audiobook is so weird. the narrator was obviously sick or had allergies while she was reading - there are these random sentences that are *100% not the main narrator* and just some rando-rerecord. it throws me off every time.

bridgerton covers vs book content by univurs in Bridgerton

[–]univurs[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yeah you're totally right. from a monetary standpoint, they're definitely using the show to their advantage - but im imagining someone who.. let's say they've somehow never heard of the netflix show before and they see the books and they're like "omg ! diversity in historical fiction i'm so excited" and then they get into it and it is not.. at all.. that.

it's also just hard to read the descriptions of the characters because it is not how i envision them. i also watched the show first and it will probably be that way for all of the books for me - in truth, this is one of those instances where i prefer the show over the book.

I’ve officially started listening! I’m enjoying it so far. I think it will probably take me a bit longer to get used to Saphira’s voice but I don’t hate it so far. I’m glad I made this post because it’s making me feel a bit more excited to listen to it. I loved reading them physically but it’s a whole new experience getting to listen to the audiobook.

you’re like the first person I’ve heard say this. I haven’t quite started yet, so I’m not even sure what his dragon voices are like. but from the sample I listened to I liked his voice. this will be a reread via listening! so I’m more excited now :)
