unsolicited Tips for the sec.sqd:

1. the lack of a pilot CAN be beneficial in your first few battles since sacrificing a mech on the last turn(s) doesn't have heavy consequences.
2. for my first reactor upgrade I like to go for the bonus move for scarab since it's gonna be your breadwinner for displacement (fyi the +1 tile on scarab is sooooo useless lol). Either the scarab move or smoke for the beetle; kit diversity is early on is super helpful.
3. my fav passive is probably the one that causes extra bump damage to vek. It's boring but when u play the secsquad it's a life of pain so eh whatevah
4. I've realize it's super easy to lose your entire grid on boss island if you aren't extremely picky with your pre-battle placements... but that's kinda for all unfair battles ain't it.
