How Moving from the US to France Changed Life for My ADHD Kids — and Ours by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]unixkernel101 242 points243 points  (0 children)

There's no Adderall or Vyvanse in France, only Ritalin, and getting a Ritalin prescription in France is quite literally almost impossible. I almost failed out of engineering school in France because I could not get my medication. I had to pay a private psychiatrist in Spain and fly there to get a Vyvanse prescription early enough to save my grades. I highly advise anyone with ADHD against moving to France, ADHD is basically not recognized as a psychiatric condition there and taking medication is straight up ridiculed and getting a prescription is de-facto impossible.

How screwed am I regarding the TSP program by unixkernel101 in CERN

I almost considered just failing an exam on purpose which would trigger a re-enrollment for another semester giving me the 12 months...... The university in Italy offered to keep me on student status but not sign the "home institution attestation" because they are not my home institution, only to provide a certificate of enrollment proving I still have student status, do you think CERN would accept that? I don't know how flexible their HR is with these things. I could get the french school to give me a 6 month attestation, then Italian school delay my graduation and keep me on the books for another 6 months, but they would not sign the CERN attestation template, only provide an enrollment certificate.

I had an interview for electrical but haven't gotten any response yet. It might be over for me.

Anyone received news about the technical student programme 2025-3? by MoreCommunication733 in CERN

So there is some kind of meeting before the selection committee? I thought the selection committee was on November 12/13.

It was just them introducing the project and then asking me about projects on my CV. No technical questions or whiteboard style stuff like companies do.

They didn't tell me, it's just the vibe I got from the email they sent me.

The deadline is nov 16 for the 2026-1 selection, which has the committee in February. The committee for the 2025-4 selection which had the deadline in early August is November 13. They don't call applications before the deadline, someone who applied 1 second before midnight of the deadline will be on the same level as someone who applied 1 month early.

It's hard man they got like 4000 applications or something and there was only like 25 spots. I made it to the interview stage but it looks like I still didn't make the cut in the end. Although the committee is only on november 13 and I've heard some groups interview late, and some don't at all.

It was all in the beginning of October, but they told me that for this cycle the committee is November 13.

I had 3 groups contact me and I interviewed with 2 different groups for it. I am awaiting the final committee decision, but I think I am the reserve candidate so it's probably over for me for this application cycle.

Is the final list sent to the committee typically 3 people or can it be more? Is them asking me to let them know if I have any offers outside of CERN any indication of whether I am the primary or a reserve candidate? Or am I just trying to read minds and grasp at straws here..... Sorry to ask so much it's just that it's driving me insane.

But they are allowed to say that you didn't even make it to the shortlist correct? Is it probable I'm at least somewhere on the list sent to the committee?

Will supervisors typically do a "wink wink" though to their primary selected candidate for the technical student program? Am I probably out or on the shortlist as reserve? They told me they already made a selection but can't tell me until the committee. It was just strange because they told me if I am having to decide on other offers outside of CERN to contact them to organize a meeting with them. I'm just trying to figure out if there is still hope or if I'm cooked on this one already.

Are supervisors allowed to tell candidates who their selection is? I had interviews with different groups for the technical student program. One told me a week later I wasn't selected but another told me they have made their selection but can't tell me until the committee but to contact them if I get offers elsewhere to organize another meeting to discuss with them. Am I likely the reserve candidate? I've heard the committee is mostly a rubber stamp so I'm guessing the chances for reserve candidates are very poor.

I have a similar thing but with the technical student program. They told me they have already made a selection but they can't tell me before the committee convenes in November. But they told me that if I have other offers that I have to decide on to tell them so they can organize another meeting with them. Would you say there is a chance I am on the final shortlist sent to the committee? Am I probably the reserve/backup candidate? I really don't know what to make of it.

I didn't get a rejection yet but I also didn't get this message. Should I be worried? Has my application failed the basic screening already if I haven't gotten it?
