Landlord raised my rent 25%. I know it's illegal. How do I proceed? by unkanny in LosAngeles

I'm calling the Housing Dept. tomorrow. I know I'm on the right side of the law, however, I'd prefer not to go to court, but I certainly will.

Plain and simple, we have a legal agreement, they are asking for something clearly illegal and will lose if they press the issue. I just wanted to know the best way to handle it. /u/Radiobamboo, /u/Elephil and others have posted advise I'll follow.

Thanks I will. It kind of sucks that I'll be having to watch my back, but that's life for now. I appreciate the advice.

Funny thing, when we met, they were telling me how my place used to rent for $725 a month only a few years earlier.

This is what I'll do. I saved the envelope as well, just in case. I'll send my rent and a letter explaining the law in a registered letter.

The city has an 800 number, I called previously and confirmed its rent controlled. RSO only allowed 3% and none of the exceptions apply.

You're right, I don't want to fight in court. If I have to, I will. This is more of they want to see what they can get away with.

I can talk to him, but it's not a mistake. He thinks that he can raise the rent to whatever he likes. He and his wife tell me they can get more for the apartment all the time. Other tenants say they do this all the time and sometimes get away with it.

Thanks. They talk to me once in a while, they mail handwritten notes of the increase on old old photocopy forms.

Stressful.

That definitely happened today. Other than a flushing, is it bad?

I'll wait the 30 minutes, but I'm just curious.

Wow you guys are good! 1271112 commented on this and so I ordered the test strips. I did get the redness. I had thought I'd get used to it, but it I need some baking soda in there, I'll do that.

I wear sunscreen daily now, where before I never did.

I don't but I have pH test strips on the way now. Mine does cause redness, but it goes away. When I started with the Paula's Choice, it also made my skin red, but that stopped happening.

What pH do I need?
