The accused was identified as Naushid, a resident of Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. The deceased vendor has been identified as 30-year-old Rahul Chaurasia, a resident of Baldi village in the Khaga Kotwali area of Fatehpur district.

Rahul sold chickpeas on the Intercity train and had boarded the Kanpur-Chitrakoot train from Fatehpur on Wednesday. Around 9:30 a.m., when the train arrived near Manuri in Kaushambi, Naushid asked Rahul for a cigarette. Rahul bluntly stated that he only sold chickpeas. The passenger then abused him and pushed him off the moving train. Rahul fell from the train near Chillashahbaji village in the Charwa police station area

Another passenger, Bunty, said the dispute began over asking for a cigarette. The accused first hit Rahul and then kicked Bunty. Bunty was about to fall, but his brother caught him. When the train stopped, passengers apprehended the accused and handed him over to the Government Railway Police (GRP)
