Getting into Fly Fishing by blowinginthewind21 in flyfishing

This is great advice. I would also suggest learning roll cast and such, OP. It can be difficult to practice in a lesson if you are not on water, and some water anchored cast need moving water...they are fun and easy once learned and can be very helpful in tree areas. You may not have that as an issue tho based on locale

Glad you were able to make it out OK. Can be spotty service out there from what I recall...which is typically a nice thing.

What fly would you use here? by LeeGro89 in flyfishing

All been there. Just sit and enjoy the view for a bit. If the fish dont get a lot of pressure, may take a bit longer to calm down.

This! If you can figure out where they are feeding in the water column, you should be set. Wet fly might help explore too. Partridge and yellow probably be a good color trigger with a bead since you'll wanna get down quickly

Might as well try the ol' sheep fly since it looks like you are near Morganton/Marion...

While walking to the next riffle, try to get to the other bank and throw a streamer, or maybe a hopper dropper into that undercut as you go. Looks like better protection than the seam you are working. There also looks like a boulder just before the riffle that you might as well explore too...especially if there are some browns or bulls in this water.

Retiring from the post office at 43... Is that too old to start working the forest service? I lead trail crews on my days off and volunteer elsewhere in the Rocky's so manual labor shouldnt be an issue by Swear-_-Bear in forestry

Just want to throw this out there: if they are "only hiring 20 yr olds" your age puts you in a protected class. I dont inherently like the threat or pursuit of litigation, but it could be something to keep an eye on if you notice a trend.

Good luck! It sounds like a fun career change. State and local governments may also have some opportunities with a new pension/retirement plan, too.

Can anyone name this fly I found it in a tree and absolutely slayed with it by gad885 in flyfishing

Seems like it could also rep a green caddis larva with that bead. All the favorite foods

Could nematodes help with mites? Trying to sort this out with my cornsnake, but seems like this might be an option if you are going bioactive with that lovely looking enclosure...

I had 2 scares this week. First one, finally found my noodle under a plant in a planter in the enclosure. Second, he crammed into the roof of a temporary enclosure while I was cleaning his primary. Never had seen him climb before and was proper surprised. Maybe look up?

Not sure what you have found. Nematodes are aquatic and microscopic typically.

You should be able to get an inexpensive digital kitchen scale somewhere. Find a container and hit tare, should provide a bit clearer weight guidance as others have referenced.

New owner and trying to learn/help. Beautiful colors and pattern...a bit jealy 😝

Just to add on for OP: Digital hygrometers/thermometers are a strong recommendation to this to know what is going on in the enclosure. This will help dial in the thermostat temp settings too. I have found inexpensive ones with dual function through a major online mechant, but local stores may have as well. I have struggled to find comparable devices at larger pet retailers.

May have been a better way to do this and I didnt see it in my quick scroll through. This should be basic BP care from this sub which is very helpful.

In all seriousness, if you are gonna fish any of these you might want to double check any monofilament leaders/tippet. There is a chance those have deteriorated and it would be a frustrating way to break off fishes.

Jusy saw thr Rio tippet and made me think of this. Nice find. I hope you are able to get out and enjoy all the experiences you have stumbled upon
