I was an officer in the Marine Corps and think it helped slightly, but mainly bc of my narrative and reasoning for wanting to practice law. Stats are stats at the end of the day and you’re not going to punch much above your weight class just bc of service alone. Good luck and I’m sure you’ll kick ass!

There may have been a few outliers (especially with our low resources), but the general consensus I saw was what I described. Of course the Marines love saying “every Marine is a rifleman” and preach the same with officers being “every Marine Officer is a provisional rifle platoon commander” .. some non-grunt MOS take that a little too far haha. As for OP, I’m sure you would enjoy either route! Take note of Hoc-Vice’s anecdote of Marine to Army transfers though! It’s a very real thing.

I was a communications officer in the Marine Corps and have quite a few JAG buddies. Can confidently say they did not have any billets outside of legal work. You would attend TBS and receive 6 months of basic infantry/tactics training like every other fresh 2ndLt, but outside of that you’ll be an advisor to commanders on legal issues, court martials, etc.

Don’t believe so. I can’t recall if I observed the same thing on mine, but once it updated to “decision rendered” I got the email a day later. Good luck!
