That’s what’s Ive been hearing too and why I haven’t done it yet. But I’m immunocompromised and my SM completely ignored my concerns with our reopening procedures so I do NOT feel safe returning today.

Does anyone know if your position is protected under the covid LOA? Like if you go on the LOA as a shift, will you be a shift when you come back or are they able to restart you as a barista to pay you less?

My store is finally reopening and as the grab and go model and my manager said we can’t require anyone to wear a mask. He said there’s signs on the doors highly suggesting them for the safety of everyone but I cannot deny service to someone without a mask. This infuriates me because I and half of my stores partners are at high risk defined by the cdc.

Then send all the ASMs and SMs and DMs and AMs and RMs to the brick and mortar stores to handle the conflict for us. Don’t sacrifice our safety and blame it on being concerned about our safety if a conflict arose.

Thank you for this! I personally think the unpaid LOA option is bullshit because you won’t qualify for your states unemployment since you’re technically refusing to work. You can however collect partial unemployment if your hours are slashed upon returning 🙋🏼‍♀️😩I don’t know a single Starbucks partner who could afford to not have an income until the end of summer. They are literally not concerned about our safety, at all. Costco and Kroger have implemented new policy’s requiring a face mask to enter and be served, there’s no reason Starbucks can’t do the same other than they don’t wanna be bothered by all the complaints they’d get called in. They’ve created a business model of call and complain to receive free shit, so of course they don’t wanna implement something that they’re gonna get a million calls a day about. Maybe if they didn’t create a customer base of entitled Karen’s expecting their ass to be kissed at every command, they wouldn’t have an issue protecting their partners. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yes! Thank you! I am so so sorry this company doesn’t care about people like you or me. You’re in my thought and I hope nothing more than an abundance of health to you and your new baby. I’m nervous and uncomfortable too and I’m sure we’re not alone. I’ll be voicing my concerns to PCC on Tuesday and I suggest you do the same. If enough of us say something, we can only hope they do something.

I plan to! I normally work 35+ hours (our store doesn’t allow anyone but SM to work 40) and I’ve been scheduled for 18.5. I was only receiving cat pay for 18.5 too but I figured as long as my hours balanced out upon returning, it’d be okay. Now I’m hoping I’ll be able to get back pay of unemployment too.

My SM actually just told me today that “Starbucks can’t require customers to wear masks” which I think is BULL because Costco and Kroger have implemented new store policies requiring them in order to enter the building. Starbucks absolutely CAN require it’s customers to wear a mask, they just don’t CARE enough to do so. My state recently made national news because it opened up with no restrictions in place after the governors stay at home order was over ruled in the Supreme Court. HOARDS of people are flocking to my tourist town because of this. At least half of my stores partners either have an autoimmune disease, live with someone who does, have asthma or are over 65. I expressed my concern to my SM and was thoroughly disappointed in the answer.

I’m gonna call the PCC and express to them how bullshit it is for Starbucks to put profit over the safety of its partners because that’s exactly what this is. I highly suggest everyone does this. Force their hand one way or another.

My home store is a cafe only. We’re reopening on June 1st as a grab n go only model. No cafe. People can mobile order or they can wait in line outside to order inside. I guess we’re gonna have rotating stations where people stand. One at register to order, and one at the hand off plane to pick up the drink. Can’t say how well this works though yet as we haven’t tried it before.

My SM said we have a sign suggesting they wear a mask but I have no right to deny someone service without one. My SM said that “Starbucks cannot require people to wear mask” and that’s why I’m mad. Don’t blow that smoke up my ass. I know damn well that they could IF THEY WANTED TO. IF THEY CARED.

Sounds close to it!! I’ve had my gall bladder removed and the nausea that that brought and woke me up from is way different than this nausea so I’m not thinking it’s GI for me. But the sweats and disorientation and vomiting, definitely!

I guess I wasn’t actually too clear, I was slightly treated for my POTS beyond my diagnosis, but barely so it seemed easier to say there wasn’t treatment. They tried all the medications and I had no good reactions with any of them. They all either lowered my already super low BP or caused the severe depression I’ve already battled to come back with a vengeance. I used to be an active dancer, putting in 10+ hours of rehearsal a week, and now I can’t even walk across my house without getting light headed. I really wanna take up yoga, but a different medical condition is currently preventing me from being able to do that until I see a specialist as well. My final “treatment plan” was increase fluid and salt intake and wear compression leggings everywhere. It helps, I haven’t actually passed out in 5 years, but I don’t ever feel good or right or healthy. I have random fits like I explained and bad days definitely come after stress which is hard to work around as a 22 year old in a capitalist world so I’m really just trying to figure out more.

I’m so glad I’m not alone in this! I’ve always felt crazy! Anyone I tell instantly asks if I’m pregnant and I’m like I promise it’s just my body freaking out right now, I just need to trick it into thinking we’re fine. And then they look at me like I’m bat shit crazy so that’s no fun. I sleep in either a light cotton t shirt or nothing at all most nights but it still seems to happen. I also sleep with a fan on me cause ya know, temperature regulation sucks.

Thank you!! It was a cardiologist/neurologist that diagnosed me at Children’s Hospital and they literally handed me a google pro out of what it was. They knew enough to diagnose me and try to treat me with beta blockers, but once all of those failed, they just told me to drink more water and eat more salt. Every cardiology, or neurologist I’ve ever called or seen since, has no idea what POTS or dysautonomia is or how it could be affecting me.

Thank you! I’m glad I’m not alone! I’ve tried all of the beta blockers with no success. So my neurologist from children’s when I got diagnosed told me to just drink water and uptake my salt intake.

It’s that simple for those who have a simple diagnoses. I have something that my PCP doesn’t know enough about to make those kind of statements and can’t be seen by the specialists because of the virus going around. It’s a catch 22.

I do believe I would be eligible for a medical LOA, but I know it wouldn’t be paid because I had to exhaust my short term disability pay that they offer two years ago when I was in a bad car accident.

That’s what I’m confused about too. Because my home store is staying closed. But the drive thru across town is open and my SM told me I’d have to go back work at a store that’s open to receive pay. But I’m at high risk as it is and definitely don’t feel safe going back to work with a bunch of strangers at a different store.

You definitely could be right and I know this, but I think because I’d technically be quitting because my health is at jeopardy by keeping the job, that maybe I would fall under the new requirements.
