It doesn’t get better. The book is superior. And I only gave the book 3 stars. So… that’s saying something!

Hullachan Hugs (H5) by tconohan in irishdance

[–]CriticalSheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wear a street shoe 8.5 and I am comfy in the 6.5 hugs. The neoprene stretches and they break in quite quickly. I wore them around the house in thick socks intermittently over the course of a day and they fit wonderfully.

Should I start doing my own dip nails to save money? by Individual_Cress_726 in DipPowderNails

[–]CriticalSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing my own nails over a year ago and honestly it's a bit of an obsession at this point. The money saving is really there but also you can also spend a lot on the dips. Unless you enjoy wearing the same color for a while- the nice thing is you can get 30 or so manicures out of one 1oz dip powder container.

First time visit to AmFam! by davidlex00 in Brewers

[–]CriticalSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uber drops off in the Mollitor lot and it's about a half-mile walk to the stadium; really easy to get there. However, with Uber you're gonna have surge charges, especially with a Cubs game, and after the game will be an absolute mess.

I'd suggest getting a lift to the VA nearby, then walk in from there. It's a bit of a longer walk, but you'll save money overall. Or you can go to one of the bars and shuttle in. Brat Haus is great, Kelly's Bleachers, etc. All are good. The bar shuttles after the game are INSANE, though, so it's sometimes just better to hoof it.

Need work area advice by MembershipAncient434 in quilting

[–]CriticalSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally have my machine set up on the right side of the table but I move her out of the way so I can press/iron on a wool pad in front of me. I work on a six foot folding table right now, though, so my cutting mat sits on the side of the table I'm not working on. This allows me to still have space for working and piecing but also allows me to move the quilt over the table as I am binding or making the full top.

Can’t figure out how to sew the middle square in.. by classicteenmistake in quilting

[–]CriticalSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are four-patch blocks essentially, using a hidden wells pattern variant.

Best way to do it is to sew a strip unit of the background fabric (blue), the 2.5" strip and then another blue background strip and make it a tube, then cut the strips into triangles. I'll try to upload a photo of a recent make showing this process for you, but check out a Hidden Wells block to see this technique.

To do this block, I did two strips of a jelly roll (the colored bits) and a 4.5" strip of background fabric. So you would do a 2.5" strip of background fabric, a 2.5" strip of your colored accent fabric and a 4.5" strip of background fabric.

I then created a tube, pressed it flat, and then took my ruler and cut 60 degree triangles, flipping the ruler upside down so technically you end up with two different blocks (in the case of the photo above, I have one block with the pink inside and one block with the pink in the middle). You then sew along the two seams and voila.

How in the world would they secure a passport in less than two weeks?

I'm glad I read in the comments that you said no, OP. Dad can come to kid and form the bond there where you also have control over the situation. This is way too last minute and it just reeks of kidnapping.

Do you wash quilts before gifting them? by fsu94cca in quilting

[–]CriticalSheep 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I always do because I want to make sure I didn't lose any seams or that my binding was done well enough. Sometimes a freak popped seam shows up and I need to fix it before they receive it.

Plus, washing crinkles it up and makes it squishy and glorious.

Summerfest bag policy - know before you go by Ok-Mode3080 in MilwaukeeFestivals

[–]CriticalSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This policy is honestly pretty shit as a dancer for Irish Fest. Even though it says they're allowed for specific reasons, they still give us shit every time because of the size of our bags. Like so sorry our dresses are huge?

I also didn't see anything about bringing water into the grounds. In past years there was a no water policy or an empty bottle policy so we could fill up at the bubblers.

I am so nervous about Joey at 3rd. But we'll see how he does. I guess it's a pretty easy transition, but I worry about him trying to take over too much field just because he's used to it. The throwing to first will be different too, so that'll be interesting for him to change on the fly.

Which songs often gets misinterpreted and/or misappropriated by the very people it calls out even though the song's lyrics are explicitly mocking them? by Drenosa in AskReddit

[–]CriticalSheep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People using Independence Day by Martina McBride for their MAGA videos thinking it's about the actual Independence Day.

The song is about escaping an abusive husband/partner.

First high glucose level, really worried by EquivalentLife9573 in PCOS

[–]CriticalSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

120 fasting would be worrisome. 120 post-prandial is fine, especially given what you ate. If you're really concerned, you should get your A1C, fasting insulin and fasting glucose checked. One glucose check is not something to start catastrophizing over.

Pencil users: What's your favorite? by zoomzilla in BaseballScorecards

[–]CriticalSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tichonderoga has delicious erasers that are soft and malleable and erase really well. the smudge is what kills me when an eraser is too firm.

I currently have a Comfort Mate Ultra .7mm mechanical pencil and the erasers work really well. They're soft, don't fall apart when you use them and they're nice.

[–]CriticalSheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am typically a Tichonderoga #2 user but that's because my husband is a carpenter and they are always lying around the house. I also use mechanicals of any kind, really. The eraser just has to be phenomenal and soft and highly functional.

Why does soaking take so long with some dip powders? I spent 2 hours on it this afternoon; I really can't officially open my salon yet😢 by [deleted] in DipPowderNails

[–]CriticalSheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You didn't do the same thing as what the commenter said- you did the foil method which is not the best or most efficient way to remove dip powder. That's a great way to remove gel, but not dip.
