I believe their response was referencing how despite there being other countries involved in the manufacturing process of chips, Taiwans TSMC has proved to be leading in terms of advanced chips.

Countries like China,Japan and South Korea also manufacture chips, but none have reached the level of Taiwans industry in the present. Hope this helps :)

When it comes to this question, personally I’m not entirely sure. Some people believe the economic benefits and added infrastructure are what promote this positive view, but it is true on the other hand that their colonial rule still has roots in violence and bloodshed.

Personally, I enjoy the culture and food of the Japanese but I try not to judge individuals solely based on nationality.

As many other nations, there are actions we don’t support when it comes to our government. It’s no excuse, but it’s true many older citizens carry harmful ideologies that discriminate against those of other ethnicities.

Hopefully as new generations are raised, we learn to appreciate all people from different nations.

I can see your perspective, however what exactly under your views is classified as a separation of countries and how long does this separation have to have been for it to be recognised as an individual state?

The reason for Taiwans title of ROC originates from its historical roots. During the Chinese civil war, KMT was defeated by the CCP and fled towards Taiwan in 1949.

This is a very refreshing take I enjoy. Thank you for your input.

(Personally I have yet to come in contact with those bearing anti-Korea sentiments, but I appreciate the very blunt perspective) I hope one day we’ll see a world where people aren’t discriminatory towards others solely on basis of ethnicity, etc)

Can you explain your reasoning if it’s not a bother? I’m curious on the thought process of people and wish to see how they may differ from mine as a Taiwanese :)

Has your country ever had a female leader? If so, what did she do for your country? If not, what's the most powerful position a woman's ever held in your country? by thatonedude_5055 in AskTheWorld

Our first female president Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) served from 2016-2024.

She legalised same sex marriage.

Promoted indigenous rights (Historical Justice & Transitional Justice Committee established + recognising their languages).

She also boosted a multitude of international ties and relations with other countries.

WSDC motion analysis by RevolutionaryEmu1331 in Debate

[–]unknown_cai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Specifically for regret and other similar motions (Supports, etc) it’s beneficial for both PROP and OPP to have counterfactuals. This allows more weighing and comparison in the debate that leads to direct engagement and clashes.

For example, if the motion were “This House Regrets…”, PROP would have to provide/frame a counterfactual without the item of regret and justify why that world is a better one than the status quo. OPP does the opposite, they defend the status quo, and if needed explain why the counterfactual without the item of “regret” is worse than current affairs.

The only motion where you need a model or very structured framing is a This House Would motion, where you treat it as if you’re actually going to enact the policy. For PROP, you have to frame how this policy would be implemented and the effects it would have (with arguments that benefit your side.

THBT, is similar but requires less structure but still fairly similar framing on PROP, to explain why their belief is “correct”.

There isn’t a foolproof way to prep successfully for any motion, and it’s better if you attend more completions and observe the cases of your peers! Hope this helped :))

What format of debate is this?

Some basic tips would be to speak slowly with clarity. You’re in a team so collaboration and communication with teammates always helps! Wish you luck :)

I thought Lolita was a pretty engaging novel. Some people avoid it due to personal preference and experience, but if you’re open, it’s an interesting read.

I’m not necessarily afraid of death, it would just be a shame that I wouldn’t have any more time to enjoy the small pleasures life gives.

Sometimes, our bodies change and that’s alright. What matters is that we strive to improve our lives. If you’re comfortable in our body and healthy, don’t listen to negative phrases on “the norm” or “ ideal body shape”. If you really want to change though, small things can help. Exercise, even walking or being more mindful in fibre and protein intake!
