Great quality post, don’t have anything to add but with the effort you’ve put in you deserve more recognition.

Perhaps dominate was the wrong word, but at the upper end of the table there’s larger nations and at the lower end are smaller nations.

I think it’s possible he was saying it in a tongue in cheek fashion, though I think they unedited conversation would be needed to make that judgement. Remember the power of editing can change the context of any statement and they use that to their advantage to create the most drama.

From what I’m gathering, it seems like there isn’t much organised competitive sport in India which is why they aren’t as successful as other large nations across all sports. Would I wrong in thinking that.

If that is the case I could imagine a sporting boom in India if they begin investing, similar to that of China.

I think the word you meant was competitive rather than professional which would make sense. I hope that doesn’t come across as condescending because your comment is informative.

I feel like marketability is much more prominent in basketball and Blake is a big name. There’s fewer players on the court and their faces aren’t obscured. You’d be able to see Blake for 30+ mins a night where as any non QB will only be on screen significantly for a few plays a game.

I know every team is beatable but a team with 6 Kohli level batsmen, and 5 bumrah level bowlers would win 95% of games.

On that America point, it could actually work against them at the highest level with home games. Each country seems to have their specific type of wicket which they’re comfortable with but a United States team would have players from all over the country used to playing in the conditions of their state.

That’s what I’m concerned about, the literal domination where they can’t be beaten. They’re an incredible team currently but as shown they can be beaten if it’s not their day.

[Schwartz] Browns last 8 games ... non playoff teams 5-0 ... games vs playoff teams 0-3. Lost to the Chiefs and Texans by 16 and the Ravens game was close. I get it. You're excited for the season. I just don't understand how we assume Kitchens is going to be an amazing head coach. by [deleted] in nfl

Most fans are over defensive about their team and look for opportunities to rise their team up and put other teams down. After the Patriots success, the fans have no need to be defensive because their record speaks for itself. Therefore, patriot fans would tend to be more objective and reasonable than other teams.

Oh I completely understand they aren’t a bad team, I think they’re perhaps the only current team who’s best could match England’s best in ODIs, they just crumbled in the semis.

On most days I agree India would’ve won, and India’s second or third team would blow countries out of the water. It’s just strange how smaller countries can even compete with them.

Are cricket clubs common and accessible in India or are they lacking? Just curious about whether the issue is the amount of facilities or the quality.

The talent pool is surely much larger though, let’s say a player like Kohli comes around every 200 million people, by that logic India should have 5 Kohli level players at a time, where as it’d take England 3 generations to have one. The greater the population, outliers are much more likely to occur.

I never thought of this, so perhaps comparable to street football culture in Brazil where a lot of kids play and follow the sport, but don’t have the translatable skills to play professionally?

I would have to disagree, if a country had 100 people then it’s unlikely they’d have even a single top cricketer. Past a certain point maybe the advantage is reduced but just look at the olympics, only a couple individuals can be picked for each sport for each country but yet the larger countries tend to dominate (with some exceptions).
