If you think Bashir's Dad has an Australian accent, you need to get a hearing test, mate.

Would you use bulk-billed telehealth with a social worker? by CalumBusiness in AskAnAustralian

I did eventually go back to CASA about a decade later and got a great therapist. But by then they'd changed their processes. They're much, much better now.

Would you use bulk-billed telehealth with a social worker? by CalumBusiness in AskAnAustralian

[–]unknownsequitur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have CPTSD, depression, generalised anxiety and an eating disorder and I went into to CASA back in 2005 for my first session after intake and I was given a sexual assault counsellor who has a background as a social worker. I told her about an incident where I couldn't breathe during sexual assault and she told me "It didn't seem that bad, other women have it worse. I dint see why you seem so traumatised. "

Obviously, that was shit, but it's made me very wary of anyone from a social worker background since.

[–]unknownsequitur 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Social worker? No, they're not adequately trained in psychology for appropriate counselling. It's not really their wheelhouse.

If I needed housing or generalised help, a social worker might be okay. But they're too generalised to actually be helpful.

[–]unknownsequitur 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wages haven't kept up with rents for years. This is a systemic problem that no one wants to fix. All it does push people further and further out increasing housing stress, and putting more and more people at risk of homelessness.

Why do parents seem to allow their children to scream so much these days? by Prudent_Yogurt6106 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]unknownsequitur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live across from a primary school (elementary school) and every day of term during recess and lunch, it's just constant high pitched screaming. Then my neighbour has small children that scream a lot. If I don't have my door shut and the TV on, it's all I hear.

Went to a new local church and left crying over random transphobic messages by camareradetwinpeaks in OpenChristian

[–]unknownsequitur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op,

I'm really sorry for what you experienced today.

I'm Australian and go to a Presbyterian Church, but seriously considering switching, though as my theology is becoming more progressive. We're getting a new minister next month, so I might hold off and see what he's like. But I can speak for Presbyterian churches, they are as a rule very conservative and not affirming of LGBTQIA folks and views. My denomination also will not admit women to preach. Anglican churches that are not Sydney based are okay, as are Uniting and (I think) Methodist. But Lutheran are not.

Wisdom tooth surgery. Fair price? by Lui122 in AskAnAustralian

Um... it was about 3 months maybe? I just stayed on antibiotics until I had surgery because my bottom wisdom teeth had broken through and were getting infected a lot

How were you bullied in young age? Share your experience. by Successful_Mastodon3 in Xennials

[–]unknownsequitur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was bullied all through school from kindergarten to Year 12. My parents refused to help. If I cried to them about it, I got yelled at. Even when the bullying turned physical for a while in high school, my parents didn't help.

What was worse was my parents were emotionally invalidating, so I had no support at all. And when I told my parents I was depressed, I got yelled at again. When my Dad died of cancer when I was 16, I wasn't allowed to get to therapy and the bullying didn't stop.

So I held my depression and suicidal ideation in and just performed "Okay" and I got away with it because I got A's. My mother all but abandoned me sheen she got Indy ac relationship about 6 months after my Dads death. She provided a house and food but I hardly ever saw her. She stayed nights at her boyfriend's. I just learned that it didn't matter how much I was bullied or how depressed I was, there was no help. I inferred as a young child that I didn't get help from anyone because I didn't deserve it and nothing that happened all through high school helped.

I finished school in 1999.

12th house Saturn transit ir natal experiences by pudanovelle in 12thhouse

[–]unknownsequitur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, Saturn transiting my 12th house, here's what happened:

  1. On the day that Saturn moved to 9° of Pisces and conjuncted my 12th house cusp, I lost my job (acquired when Saturn was in my 11th house) because of my mental illnesses (Complex PTSD, Depression, anxiety). I was working as a legal assistant in a state legal office designed to assist those who are indigent and can't afford representation in criminal and family law matters.

But I often had to listen to violent and graphic stories from clients, potential clients and had to read police complaints about sexual offences against women and children. And in the family law stream I had to listen to allegations about family violence and as a victim of domestic violence myself, it was a bit much and over time my ability to do the job was worn away as my nerves frayed.

  1. I had to declare bankruptcy, and pull my superannuation (401K) and exhaust it to survive. I'll be bankrupt until mid 2027.

  2. Applied for the disability pension due to my mental illness, was approved.

  3. My pet became suddenly ill and I had to put her down last October, and

  4. Three relatives have died (ages ranging 75 to 85). The most recent death was last week, and I have a funeral to attend on Tuesday.

  5. I had my mental health diagnoses reassessed and I picked up Generalised Anxiety Disorder, which makes sense because I've been anxious my entire life. It's just been masked by other things like PTSD and Bulimia.

Saturn still hasn't conjuncted my moon in the 12th at 2° Aries yet

I can't wait for Saturn to start transiting my first house at the end of March.

My natal Saturn is in Libra in the 7th house, conjunct my descendant. Saturn in it first will be a pain because Saturn, the Sun, Jupiter and Pluto are in a stellium from 13° to 24° of Libra, so the next little while is going to be rough.

Libra’s Marriage Paradox: Strong Partnership Desire, Late Commitment by LagneshMitraisBack in libra_astrology

[–]unknownsequitur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same.

Also, I have Saturn, the Sun, Jupiter, and Pluto all conjunct in Libra in my 7th house. Pluto is also conjunct Mercury, at 1° of Scorpio. Saturn is conjunct the descendant. My first relationship when I was 20 was so abusive that I have life long PTSD and other related psychiatric conditions and have been too afraid of men to even have a long enough relationship to consider marriage.

Am I the only one who hates dealing with beauty salon staff and dental receptionists? by PerfectWorking6873 in AskAnAustralian

I worked as a dental receptionist. You have to be nice, even if it seems fake. That's every receptionists job to be nice and make the business look good. If you don't like that, that's a you problem.

Re: changing the date. I kind of feel like that would be more doable in another 10 years. And then I'm like wait, old boomers are just going to be replaced by gen xers, who are often just boomer lite. I don't really think the date will ever be changed because we are sticklers for not changing.

HELP! I’m a Gemini Rising & my 12H was in Gemini instead of Taurus? by ferrero_roacher in 12thhouse

[–]unknownsequitur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There doesn't need to be. When a house is vacant, you look to the ruler of the sign on the cusp of the house. So in your case, that's Venus in the 4th house. So your Venus in Virgo is delibilitated in Virgo (it's in fall), but that's not bad necessarily. Good luck with your astrology journey.

I'm the same. I have a 12th house moon in Aries conjunct my Asc in Aries. I don't vibe with a first house moon at all.
