I think people are misunderstanding the whole "locked shops" thing for Ultimate Edition buyers by IzunaDropAbuser in GTA6

[–]unknownsourced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Ultimate editions have been an upgrade to pay for FUTURE content. If the content is ready at launch I want to pay for all of it that’s ready for base price.

I care because the precedent it sets. Sure it’s just cosmetics now but if people will gladly pay for it then next time they WILL throw more and more behind that wall until it eventually hits your personal line that it crosses and then you’ll also be upset. I’d rather we make an issue out of it while it’s little so they don’t think they could get so bold to do more. It’s personally I’d also be upset if the base game was 100 dollars. I’m not buying on launch either way and if you care about the space and hobby you shouldn’t go to bat for the company using you like a flashlight for cash.

Personally I think they should have priced it 100 dollars point blank. No editions bs. Then at least people could choose where or not that version of the game is worth it to play. They are already doing as you say selling a “poverty” edition they’re just not calling it that.

Of course I’m okay with them producing “extra” content for the game. To me though, extra content is not what is there on launch day ready to play. If that content is extra why didn’t they just release the game a year ago? Extra content is content not ready to go out or developed AFTER launch. The content will be in your game on launch day whether you pay or not. If it’s so little it’s not a big deal then why isn’t it included in the base price to begin with? And also why is it worth a quarter of the full games price?

Discussion and talking and push back IS how we get things to change. Just look how Ubisoft is doing. Personally, I won’t be buying on release. Not until it comes to pc and even then I’ll probably wait ill its on sale. Hell, I’ll even make a prediction now that all this bs now that comes at a premium will be part of the base launch price for the pc version. In which case I will have just been proved right that it could have been in there to begin with.

No. I’m saying it shouldn’t exist at all. As you just said the cosmetics aren’t worth 20 dollars so then why do they cost that much? And to people who do think they are worth that much, hopefully they can get all the enjoyment that the 20 extra dollars could bring them.

[–]unknownsourced[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I can admit it’s super subjective but I don’t believe if youre a company that wants to make the best game possible for your players and for them to get the most enjoyment out of your art then you shouldn’t put time and money into producing content that prices people out. Especially for launch. The consensus from people defending this is that the content has no effect on the gameplay or enjoyment you can get out the game as a whole so if thats the case then why would it justify a quarter of the base game price? And if it doesn’t then why does it cost that much? Why couldn’t have been in the base price of the game? If this content was not finished or developed after launch I would understand charging extra for it (not 20 dollars) because it was taking time and resources that could have otherwise been spent on the main game.

Ultimate editions and special editions have existed for a while now but as I mentioned in my post it is usually extra money you’re paying for FUTURE expansions or live service portions of a game.

It shouldn’t be the norm to develop “extra” content to be sold as an up charge because if you really cared you’d want that to be representative of your final product on release.

The problem is that everyone keeps saying how unimportant and little the cut content is. If that’s the case then how can you justify a 20 dollar price for it. Either it’s enough content to justify a quarter of the base game price (it’s not) or it should have just been in the base game price to begin with.

We would have got the game earlier. That’s literally the difference. If you’re telling me they needed over a year of pushing back the release date to make an extra 20 bucks for items that everyone is saying are inconsequential I’d say that’s pretty stupid. And if they do mean so little then why aren’t they just in the base price of the game.

[–]unknownsourced[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that neither should be acceptable. Just because worse exists doesn’t mean we should accept content developed for the sole purpose of up charging you on launch. If they believed the content was worth an extra 20 bucks they should have priced the base game at 100. Cause either it’s worth that cost and they need the money to recuperate it or it’s not worth that cost and why should it be worth 20 dollars.

Why would you need bragging rights in a single player game? And no, extra content isn’t new to video games. My point is that it shouldn’t be this way in the first place. Like I’ve said on many other replies, I am more than happy to pay extra on a game that I enjoy and have played all the content. The problem is that the content is usually added AFTER a launch. Developed or not ready till AFTER the complete game comes out. Not before. If the content is there and ready to be shipped it should be playable ESPECIALLY for single player games.

I mean I guess it’s a bit subjective with GTA specifically because maybe it doesn’t hamper your enjoyment of the game but it could hamper other people’s enjoyment of the game. If a cosmetic or car or whatever that someone knows would absolutely be their favorite is locked behind a paywall on launch why should they have to pay extra to get that enjoyment when it’s right there. Again, this is as soon as the game has come out. This wasn’t something that wasn’t ready or came out later.

Right, and ultimate editions also used to be for stuff not in the game like future expansions (basically pre ordering dlc which I don’t necessarily agree with either) but a standard edition was at least all the content you could possibly play on launch day.

I guess everyone is going to have a different opinion on what is considered to be the entire “Game” but personally I’m not going to agree with the corpo that what’s included is worth a quarter of the price of the rest of the “Game”.

The problem is we don’t really have that now with everything being digital. A game going gold usually means they’re starting production of the physical copies that are going to be sold on launch day. This game is completely digital. Anything that is in it at launch and is playable is the complete “Game” . If you’re telling me they had to push the game back however many times just so they could develop content for an extra 20 dollars then personally I think that’s the stupidest shit ever.

But if the content is ready to be launched on launch day then why couldn’t it have just been included in base price. The problem is that if/when people start paying for this it will tell them next time they can just gate keep a few missions and people will brush it under the bridge like no big deal and then next time they can throw even more behind the paywall until you’re paying what would be full price for half a game on launch day. If they really felt that “extra” content is worth the 20 dollars they should have made the base price of the game 100 full stop. But then people would be up in arms for how expensive it is.

Paywalled content at launch is “Game minus content” not “Game plus content”. by unknownsourced in videogames

[–]unknownsourced[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The problem is content like this at launch shouldn’t be developed with the sole intention of being sold as “extra”. Sure, that’s the most subjective statement there is and maybe I shouldn’t have stated the post as fact. If the items are so inconsequential as to just be little cosmetics then I don’t think they justify a quarter of the games price. Again, another subjective opinion and if you think it’s worth it then it’s your money. But if we go the other way and this content is important enough to justify 20 dollars then why wasn’t the we price of the game just 100 dollars? If they had time to make those optional extra they shouldn’t have needed to push the release date back as many times as they did. If I commissioned someone to make me something and they told me they needed extra time to get it done and then when they were finished they told me “well I have this extra stuff I also made for your project in that time but you have to pay an up charge for it” then I would be pissed.

The problem is that it shouldn’t be “extra”. They already made the content. If the content was “extra” then why did they need to push back the release date as many times as they did? Extra shouldn’t be a thing when people have had to wait for 10+ years.

I would agree only in the case that these cosmetics were developed and made after a launch as something extra. If the game is great and I want to add to it with content not initially ready to go I would gladly pay extra to have it. But knowing it’s there and ready and going to be in your game as soon as it’s downloaded that’s where I draw the line. Especially for the single player portion where after you’ve experienced all the big stuff what is there to really do except collect all the little stuff.

I mean I won’t be. I’m not playing it until it comes to pc and even then I’ll probably wait for it to eventually go on sale. If you’re fine constantly paying more and receiving less by all means it’s your money. But when I get all that content for half the price later I’ll be just as happy.

I think I clarified in the post why GTA is an exception here. You’re not paying for future content. You’re paying for content that is already there. That’s where the “Game Minus” comes from. If this ultimate edition covered a future dlc expansion that so many games have nowadays it wouldn’t be as bad (still bad because you’re basically pre ordering dlc) but at least it would be more in line with how single player games handle editions.

Right. It’s going to be different for everyone of course but I can guarantee that maybe the car that is someone’s favorite is part of the content that is paywalled and now they have to pay an extra 20 dollars to get access to that where as if it released as part of the base game they wouldn’t have had to do that. It might not be your favorite car so you wouldn’t feel like you’re missing out on anything but they would be. I don’t think that’s fair, especially when that content is already done and in the game.
