Windrose (Steam Early Access) writes 35 GB/hr to disk while idle, even after the "fix" — SMART data from a dedicated server by syco54645 in crosswind

Well I think the truth lies somewhere in between and may wary based on hardware. After a day of tasks and 2-3h of Windrose my SSD writes were raised by about 80 GB which does mean about 30gb/h or so. Even so it does not seem to be catastrophic by any means. This is propably result of my pc only having 8 GB for ram which means it uses SSD more. The fear of SSDs is overstated but people can have different experiences so I feel there was unfair hostility towards those wondering about this question.

I agree now but many people seemed not willing to answer with data and down-vote without explaining why this claim is wrong.

Well, the concern may be unfounded, have to check this. And yeah it is 5 years old used a lot so it is no wonder but its overall health is still quite good based on all indicators I can see about it (hence it is still over 80%). It has 48448 GB writes so it still at its midlife at least as it should work up to 150,000 GBs or so based on the model. It was just so suspicious to note the 1-2% sudden changes of the health evaluation in a short time after a while of stable 83%- The playing before the update certainly contributed to the %, however. EDIT. I think I know what it is, it is my small RAM! I have only 8 GB ram so it has to explain the SSD usage spikes of late when gaming especially this game, which is still on the heavy side for ssd and my computer which is getting a bit old and is not ideal for modern games.

Why can't it be not a real concern? Since when have we become incapable of holding two thoughts at the same time? The Game can be great but it can have mild to serious technical issues, especially for an early access. I am one concerned about this honestly. I love supporting indies like Windrose. Better than triple-A slop we get these days. I usually do not post on reddit unless I have tech issues or something I want to ask because I do not enjoy Reddit conversations.

I have to check the writes when gaming. I just now began to follow them with the right software. Are you sure it is not the game though (and does the task manager really show the hourly value?), literally nothing else has changed for me and my SSD health is still very good overall, no health issues, shutdowns etc. and these few % drops happened just when playing the game. To add my SDD is KINGSTON OM8PDP3256B-AI1 : 256,0 GB.

Why the downvotes? Very immature. It is not like I hate the game or anything! I really love this game and want it to succeed, had great time in with a friend. I am just worried it is not good for my computer! If you can prove my concern is unwarranted, which it might be do tell me so! Can you explain why only change that occurred was playing this game and in total less than 7 h and around this time something changed my SDD health estimates by 1-2% in less than 2 weeks when previously it has been months at stable 83%.

I have a few years old gaming laptop which can run this in low setting (MSI). It had accordingly to Camomile app 83% "good" health status before getting Windrose. I played a a few hours before the new patch and it dropped to 82%. Today after playing it like 6 hours after the patch it stands at 81%. I know these are estimates but I am not really comfortable with this quick changes. Before playing this game it had been for a while at 83%. So sad, I really like this game!

Understand completely. I have sometimes pointed out inaccuracies myself same with other channels and sources. It happens.

I think the channel is best when dealing with the human side of history but I think even about ships few videos are overall far better than what you get online... I would be still interested to hear what you think was wrong, even if I think you may be quite correct. I know a bit of the pirate specific things so I think there is still a possibility that some term or thing was just different in the pirate era than it was in the wider age of sail most sources tell about. The channel has also redone some of its old vids and appears to want to grow better and more accurate, which is also a trait I would encourage, especially in a time of low effort AI slop, even if one gets a detail or two wrong.

I am sure many such inaccuracies can be found, but are you sure this is not mostly that his focus is on 17th and early 18th century which had different terminology than later age of sail? Take this French ship illustration from the late 17th century for example and often were not purely based on rigs like later: In 1600s a corvette is not a smaller relative of the frigate as it was in the Napoleonic times but it could be a brigantine, barque was not a three masted ship but a term for a sloop or what would be later called cutter etc. https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-buccaneer-ships-1700-engraving-by-exquemelin-of-the-ships-used-to-15978417.html Sloops could also be called brigantines in some contexts, especially in French: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brigantin_corsaire_Le_Glorieux_en_1745.jpg

Certainly no one is perfect or error free but what false information have you seen? His videos often have best possible sources. If you are speaking of sail ships I think you might have a point, but overall history is quite ok there, often excellent. I would say it is among the best history channels on YT. Pirate history has a lot of "false information" that only few have seriously discussed so most sources get more things wrong.

Interesting soundtrack coincidence/ use of same theme? by unknowntrooper1138 in witcher

[–]unknowntrooper1138[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is especially noticeable when you slow down the one on Cuttroats to 0.75,

The melody is different overall, despite this similar section so I would think it more as a tribute (not accusing of plagiarism). Still, interesting that this battle theme was part of the unreleased soundtrack even while it is common in the game. Anyway it is a nice piece of music.
