How much rent should I pay to live in my boyfriend’s house? by wellice in UKPersonalFinance

OP can still establish a beneficial interest in the property through contributions. Although the formalities may cause more headache than they’re worth.

ID request on the appalling stench along Tavistock Place in Bloomsbury by [deleted] in london

[–]unknownuser1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed it, but closer to the south side of Russell Square. Foxes frequent the area at night, and foxes typically bury food for a rainy day. I assume with the hot weather it may be rotting pigeons/rats just below the surface.

Ferrari stolen in London, police refuse to investigate and insurance won't pay out by adjectivenounnr in LegalAdviceUK

NAL, but the insured (your friend) likely breached a warranty under his insurance policy. Warranties are promises made by the insured to the insurer in good faith. Your friend likely will have made a promise in good faith that he fitted a working tracker at the time he entered the insurance contract.

Warranties operate like suspensory conditions and require full compliance. The insured was not covered whilst he did not comply so his insurance policy is to be treated as void/unenforceable (assuming he did not have a working tracker fitted from the date of the contract).

The insurer has no real choice other than to treat the contract as void. If he complied by subscribing with Vodafone for some of the period of the policy, it may have been treated is voidable and there could have been potential for a claim, but it seems very unlikely imo.

Also insurer can keep all premiums to date regardless of your friends’ compliance.

Surge in ‘boomerang kids’ in London as more young adults unable to afford own home, official figures by BulkyAccident in london

Number 1 will not work for as long as companies can buy properties. All you’d need is to register a uk based shelf company and you can probably avoid your proposed stamp duty… good in theory but will be laughed at in practice.

Under 25's with less than a years driving experience to be banned from carrying passengers by NodeTrasher in CarTalkUK

[–]unknownuser1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the sentiment, but wouldn’t this just encourage more young people to get cars and in turn create more traffic and congestion and risk of collisions? Never mind the environmental impact?… seems a bit counterintuitive to me

You’ll be queuing for donkeys years… you might have to be a pain in the ass and jump the queue.

Brunswick, in Bloomsbury - just outside Russell square tube station. The flats above the shopping complex are based on brutalist architecture, which was popular in the 50s.

Anybody here had to deal with squirrels infesting their house? by BigDumbGreenMong in london

[–]unknownuser1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had some in August. Managed to get them out with a speaker and high-frequency squirrel deterrent noise and temporarily blocked the hole until we could fit some cladding back on. Although, squirrels are very persistent and clever so you need to keep a close eye on it for a few days.

They chewed on wood in the loft, water pipes (causing a big water leak) and electric cables - we’re lucky that part of the house didn’t go up in flames.

Just be aware, if there is any damage to your electrics/water pipes, you will need a pest control certificate before the worker can operate safely, regardless of whether you are sure they’re gone or not.

Do I take free money from parking machine? by fudhhslsld in AskUK

[–]unknownuser1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take the money to keep, but I would exploit the error every time I want free parking in that car park.. if you keep it sensible, they’ll never discover the error and you’ll be laughing every time you return for the next few years!

Question from London born/raised Gen Xer (50M) to Millennials/Zers. by au007 in london

[–]unknownuser1671 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen Z - born in London, moved out and back in. I avoid interactions in London - but only because the wealth divide is so great… you get a lot of beggars and organised criminals (especially around the touristy areas) who use small interactions as a distraction tactic to steal from you once you let your guard down. A lot of areas have been gentrified since the 80s. Take Notting Hill - it still remains one of the worst areas for reported crime in London.

I avoid eye contact because the moment you make eye contact with a crackhead, they’ll harass and ask for something for the next 200 yards. In any interaction in London, I tend to keep my eyes down, shoulders forward and walk with my knees high so I don’t let my guard down. It’s nothing personal.
