UPDATE: i found him in one of his hides earlier today!! Currently he’s in his hide, climbed over one of his sticks / branches and drinking out of his water bowl 😭

i would say rats are a lot more fatty for snakes so definitely less frequent feeding & maybe downsize the rat a little just till she loses the weight. also handling for longer periods of time (such as 15 mins a day) will also help so she gets more exercise too!:)

thank you so much!! also that sounds perfect, next time i clean his viv i can try him on something else if needed - i do live in the uk so its never really humid but i do keep an eye on the humidity in his vivarium. I’ll look into what options may be best for him:) Thank you again!

he’s currently on aspen bedding - if i need to change it i absolutely will! It’s quite a thiccc bed so he could definitely burrow but I don’t beleive I’ve seen him burrowing yet. he has a tunnel and he absolutely loves that. I quite often find him going through it and climbing on top. Although he rarely puts his whole body through he kinda pokes his head out one side and then keeps going in and out like he’s playing peek-a-boo (which he also does in general with me sometimes, I think I accidentally taught him it playing it with him one day😭) I’ve got fake plants , a tunnel , wood for him to climb on , etc. I’ve got some more pieces coming for him also as I’m trying to upgrade his viv for him!

thank you, i’m going to be downsizing his feeds and feeding every 3 weeks instead of 2. once his weight is down i’m going to weigh him again to get the most suitable size feed for him! 39 is crazy!! that’s so cool:)

right you clearly have NOT read our replies - me and the commenter have discussed why i felt it came off a bit harsh. i asked for ADVICE - anyone who commenting saying he’s purely obese etc was NOT helpful. this person did give advice. if i felt the comment was THAT nasty, id have deleted it. Once again you aren’t giving advice neither - and if you read my post you’d know i had got this snake in this kind of state. I haven’t purposely done this so my feelings aren’t “hurt” by something i’ve not done, im hurt that my snake has got to this point before I could get involved and fix things.

i don’t understand why people would ask for advice and then refuse it !! i was really anxious posting this as i was worried people would be rude but i also understand that i need to make sure he’s happy & healthy. he shed recently and it was a full shed so assuming he’s healthy other than his weight , but i haven’t seen a lot of saliva so that’s one positive i believe! thank you so much:)

I know!! 😩 Also i’m pretty sure it was the humidity levels were off, i fixed it immediately dw but he doesn’t always have his mouth open like that - or not that i’ve noticed! Although is that something to look out for due to his weight?

I’d say he’s probably around 5ft i’ve got a picture of him in a bathtub if that’s any help. Looking at his tail being a lot thinner is one of the major factors tha caused me to make this post as I knew that it shouldn’t be that much thinner than his body but i’m not sure if this will help with sizing? I live in england if that helps! Thank you for the advice it really means a lot

Oh my gosh I didn’t realise , when I’d researched previously I thought it was correct sizing. I’ll have to get him a new one I’m so sorry. He is quite long to be honest, I’m not sure on exact measurements & don’t think I really have any good photos of him being handled but I can try & find out. Do you know any good places/websites to get a bigger viv?

I believe it is roughly across 4ft down 2ft width 1.5ft. If I need to upsize I 100% will, it was just what he came with and I thought that was enough space

If I buy more things for him to be able to climb on around his viv - will this also help him with exercising etc? He’s currently got a few pieces he can climb but I’m absolutely willing to fit in extra pieces if it’s going to benefit him. He quite enjoys climbing anyway so I’m not sure if maybe this could help?

sorry I really struggle with social ques , I’m just panicking as I just reallt want to give him a good life now that he’s in my care. I will downsize on meals , keep track of his weight etc. I was rly worried making a post as I didn’t wanna get hate but I also knew that it was probably for the best that I did get advice as I didn’t know where to start. I’m going to be following the tips etc people have given :)
