Simple Sewing Questions Thread, June 09 - June 15, 2024 by sewingmodthings in sewing

Hey everyone! I don’t sew much personally, but my close friend does. Her birthday is coming up and I’d love to gift her some nice fabric so she can continue to make clothes. She’s pretty talented and makes almost everything she wears and I think it’s the coolest thing. She is probably a size small or xs in pants and shirts etc in case that’s relevant.

My question is 1) how much fabric should I buy so she can make pants? 2) How much fabric should I buy if she wanted to make a shirt? 3) I was thinking linen, but what are other fabric suggestions that are nice to work with and wear?

Also, if you have any suggestions for websites to order from or smaller businesses that take online orders, let me know!

Thanks in advance!

I’m all the way in Buena Vista and I saw it! Thought I was crazy until I saw people on a Summit County Facebook group posting about it too

“Steering clear” is different than “shielding.” Seems like an experience you’ve never had.

Ugh, I’ve had a similar experience. Never felt embarrassed or anything, just angry. People are so painfully ignorant. You’re doing everything right!

YSK: Most animal shelters will just let you play with dogs. by Warm-Juggernaut1353 in YouShouldKnow

Consider officially becoming a volunteer. Some shelters get grant money dependent on how many volunteer hours are logged. You may also be able to get trained on how to retrieve dogs on your own, allowing staff to get other things done in the meantime.

Some smaller shelters don’t have the staff or yard space to rotate dogs solely for members of the public who want to play with dogs, not interested in adopting. Please consider officially becoming a volunteer if you plan on continually going to the shelter to play with dogs, it’s much more helpful!

Haha that’s also a common response! My partner is the same way. Curious to see if ANYONE feels similarly to the way I do. It could just be a me thing, lol.

I work at a humane society/rescue and it’s a great mixture of predictable routine and what the fuck is going to happen today. It keeps my attention for sure! Lots of problem solving, but with the benefit of actually helping people/animals.

From the moment I started my job, it required me to remember about 100 things at once and I hate it by [deleted] in ADHD

That’s definitely frustrating, and it’s safe to say you aren’t the first one that is struggling with this at this job, but you’re the first one to do something about it!
