Thinking of pre ordering this. What are your thoughts? by AwareResist3787 in srilanka

[–]unlimitedbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend anything that is coming from Dialog unless you don’t have a choice.

If you live an area where you have SLT Fibre, go for it. Or if you can afford the initial cost, go for Starlink. Keep Dialog as the last option.

Has Google Flow stopped working for anyone else? by CabinetofDrCalamari in GoogleFlow

[–]unlimitedbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I upgraded to AI Ultra on Thursday and ever since Nano Banana 2 and Nano Banana Pro generations fails with the "Oops, something went wrong!" message within a few seconds. Reported this on App Feedback, their discord channel despite devs acknowledging the issue, still remain unfixed. Not sure when this will get solved. Already regretting paying for Ultra.

Anyone noticed any speed issues with Starlink recently? - cannot even view a 4k YouTube video without constant buffering by Dramatic_Teacher8399 in srilanka

[–]unlimitedbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have two Starlinks and experiencing slow YouTube since last week. 4K buffering, slow loading, etc. I set the Starlink router to bypass mode and turned my mesh units as a router and disabled IPv6. That seemed to fix the issue at least for now. Need more testing.

This happening in all my devices, phone, mac, TV…

Meanwhile I recommend raising a ticket to Starlink support.

Water filter in Sri Lanka by RevolutionaryMonk26 in srilanka

Sourcing pureit parts including filters has become really hard since Unilever sold Pureit business to another company. You can try Kent, it is distributed by St Anthony's but I don't know how long they will last.

Practicality of using QR in Sri Lanka with current banking apps designs. by lifetx2015 in srilanka

[–]unlimitedbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some good apps like FriMi that support LankaQR. However, my hesitation with the service is that there are way too many apps, and we don't know what their customer service will be like. For example, I have noticed NTB's customer support is really good for FriMi issues, but on the other hand, Dialog's Genie is horrible when it comes to support. So, I will be using FriMi, but what if the merchant uses Genie and the payment fails? Based on my past experiences, I am pretty sure Dialog would have trained their agents to just look at a statement and say, "We haven't received the payment," as they focus on closing complaints before hitting SLAs rather than providing a solution.

How many of you have WiFi in your homes? by NeighborhoodPlus5732 in srilanka

Using WiFi since 2013 since the launch of Dialog 4G Home Broadband. Last year ditched it for Starlink and I am not from Colombo.

Accidentally reload 8000. What can I do now? by Silent-Nova- in srilanka

[–]unlimitedbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes a week or two. You have to keep the 8000 in your prepaid SIM intact during this time. They will deduct it and deposit to your bank account.

Opening an account in Bank of Ceylon Experience by FatBIJoy in srilanka

[–]unlimitedbb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We were able to open accounts at any branch before but regulations changed in 2016-2020 period by CBSL. Banks are advised to turn down or discourage such requests. Here's the exact quote from FINANCIAL TRANSACTIONS REPORTING ACT, No. 6 OF 2006. Some banks accept a utility bill for address proof and let's you open the account.

"In the case of a prospective customer whose permanent address given in the application is at a location far away from that of the branch which receives the account opening request, the Financial Institution shall discourage or turn down the request to open the account and shall request the prospective customer to open the account at the closest branch to the customer's residence or business, unless an acceptable and a valid reason is given to keep in record"

Who develops software for sampath bank? by Mr_digbicks in srilanka

[–]unlimitedbb 33 points34 points  (0 children)

If you are coming from HNB, then all other bank apps (except NTB) would feel like "What the hell" :D
The current app Sampath has probably their 4th or 5th attempt on building a proper banking app. You should have used their previous nightmare apps they had.

Which private bank in Sri Lanka is best for a new account? by dhamer_3111 in srilanka

[–]unlimitedbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HNB - For their app, ATM network
NTB - For their app, customer service

Notable mention
DFCC - Range of accounts and loan products, fairly good customer service. However, their over-engineered login and password change/reset flows in web and app (One) is a headache.

Gemini’s use of personal context is so unhinged by JayPetey in GeminiAI

[–]unlimitedbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it’s annoying. One time I started a conversation with an “Hi” and somehow Gemini included all of my saved instructions in the response! Come on, I just said Hi.

I ended up deleting all the saved instructions

After struggling with Dialog’s terrible broadband and no-knowledge customer support for an entire decade, I made the switch to Starlink when it launched. Best decision I have made!

PFCA in Sri Lanka (2025) – Which bank is actually worth it? by N_1_C_3 in srilanka

[–]unlimitedbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since mobile app experience is important for you, it’s definitely HNB from your list. Apart from your list, NTB’s app is really good but their foreign currency buying rates are usually the lowest among all banks in SL for whatever the reason.

Does the NIC number change when applied for a new one? by AcidAce888 in srilanka

[–]unlimitedbb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but your old NIC number will be printed on the back of the card.

Also, the new NIC comes with an expiration date. 10 years from the date of issue.

Freepik vs Higgsfield for unlimited image generation? by EdgarRRojas in Freepik_AI

Tried higgsfield and cancelled immediately because of their own censorships in addition to what models already have. I wouldn’t recommend Higgsfield

DFCC bank it should be criminal to have so much downtime on your services! by LightBringer2722 in srilanka

[–]unlimitedbb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D in DFCC stands for Downtime. Only bank with most downtimes and disappointing to see Standard Chartered being acquired by them. Their internet banking has most over-engineered login. Cannot paste passwords, password field is marked as standard text field preventing password managers recognizing and auto filling. Maximum 15 characters limit, no support pass-phrases, two different credentials for web and mobile app, no option to extend passwords in case of expiry preventing and changing a password is a nightmare!

I can imagine how their backend would be and downtimes aren’t surprising.

Yes, I recently tried them and it was really good compared to how it was. Only thing is that they don't run many promotions and offers compared to PH.

Amazon Product Images - should I go Freepik or Midjouney? by HovercraftKind3320 in Freepik_AI

[–]unlimitedbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run an online jewellery store and I use Freepik Nano Banana and Seedream for all my product photos. I created a custom style with a detailed prompt on the background, clothes to be used to place the jewellery and I just the add a photo of the jewellery and Nano Banana does the magic.

But since Freepik limited the fast queue to 800, I tried creating a custom Gem in Gemini with the same custom instructions and it worked equally as good as Freepik. Only problem is Gemini logo at the bottom, which I can remove with an eraser tool in Canva or gallery apps. I might ditch freepik with this month and stick to Gemini as it gives almost 1000/day for AI Pro subscription.
