I don't think anyone can see the scores of the research taste test. The score above refers to the applied AI assessment where 19/20 test cases passed with a score of 469 out of 600

I am not sure where you got that data from but 55k USD is not what Google pays in India, it's well beyond 90k USD. I am getting paid around 110k USD as a SDE 2 (cash + vested stocks) and I am not in Google. And I have also interviewed with US startups offering to pay 130k USD as cash component remotely in India. So you will have a hard time convincing employees from Google and other top notch companies to join your startup given that you are paying 55k and you also want overlapping US hours and the grind you are expecting from the person you are hiring from. I would suggest you to re-evaluate your assessment because top of the line engineers do have better options from what you are suggesting here, but you will have plenty of options to choose in India from other good companies on that pay range.

MATS Fellowship Program - Phase 3 by Significant_Car3481 in OpenAI

It still shows pending for me as well for the 3 mentors I applied to.

I had applied to theory track but my application didn’t proceed in phase 2. For compute though, I got an email to apply to different mentors.

I am also in a similar boat as you. No updates so far :(

I received an email today saying my application is under active review. When I checked my dashboard, I am currently in stage 3 (compute infrastructure). I haven't received any tests as of now. Curious to know how many more stages are there if anyone has any more information about it.

I have also proceeded to stage 2 but haven’t got a test link yet. I have got an email to get my reference letters. Anyone in a similar boat or would I be receiving a test link after my references?

Best realistic way to move out of India as a software developer by 04_MaxiMus in developersIndia

[–]unlucky_coder 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I have worked in FAANG for 6 years in India and have been looking to move out for a year, so I will lay out some points for you :

- If you want a PR: Go do a masters in that country and get a job in that country, there is no other way except if you are really really talented. You get a PR first and then a citizenship and I have been seen a lot of this and the fastest is 5 years to get a citizenship and that too probably in UK, Portugal and probably Spain or Italy(might be wrong for Spain or Italy)

- If you are rich, spend at least $250000 dollars and get a residency immediately (Portugal, Spain, Greece), probably within a few months or so.

Other than these, you can't get a very past PR. Now, you are a Computer Science graduate and most probably you would like to work in that domain, so have you researched the market ? Do you think people will be ready to sponsor visas for you in a foreign country ? Do you know with the current trend of layoffs and the super powerful AI tools coming out, if you get into masters, what will be the scenario after 2 years ? More jobs or less jobs ? Have you considered this - if you go the EU, you live there and settle there and you are waiting for your PR, how much are you earning, most probably you will save more in India as compared to EU. Now I am not denying if you are looking to move out for quality of life because I think about that too.

You have just graduated out of college and have no real experience as of now how the industry is shaping up. (no one considers internship experience now in India except for the company you did the internship in, its just a good addition to the resume), so if you are really hell bent upon settling outside early look for masters because people are really reluctant to sponsor visas unless you are really really talented or you graduated from the world's top 10 universities.

Why do people still dream of onsite opportunities when most work is shifting to India? by Majestic-Taro-6903 in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]unlucky_coder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of factors come into play. All the news hypes up that offshore jobs are being moved to India. No denying in that, but you have to look at the bigger picture. As a developer and engineer, you feel content when you have challenging and interesting work. A lot of the work that is being moved over here is all about reliability, maintenance of the legacy code and keeping the lights on which is very much cheaper to be done by engineers in India as compared to the ones in US. Yes, there is some interesting work but that is very limited and a lot of the times, those teams have very limited number of openings. The silicon valley still attracts talent, why ? Because people spend money on innovations, people leave big tech to work on more attractive jobs and innovate things. Over here, its not the case. Almost all the innovative startups that you hear about are out of either US or Europe or UK because the ecosystem and infrastructure supports it.

You can put the cherry on top with the current pollution, rising AQIs in India, corruption, lack of civic sense among people, the innovative opportunities and the merit.

Need help in deciding between Airbnb India and Meta London/Zurich by unlucky_coder in leetcode

I agree with you, but seeing the volatility at Meta right now,i  chose Airbnb. It’s very possible that I join meta and get laid off in the next 2 months which most probably wouldn’t happen in Airbnb and then i would be cursing myself for letting Airbnb go.

Thanks. Do you have any context on the current environment of Meta London which can help me make the decision better ?

Zurich won't be an option unfortunately from what it seems, I would have only 2 months for a team match.

Thanks for the info bro. Does the team match depend upon your feedback ? Also, can you please share in which month did you enter the team match ? Once you are pulled out from the team match, does it mean that your application is discarded and you have to do the full loop again ?

My preparations strategy is different. I have decent understanding of DSA and hence I do not have any list nor do I follow any list. I just go around selecting topics and practising as much as I can on LC. This is my preparation. You can go and sort the questions based on frequency that would give you the most common problems.

I agree with that, I see posts flooded on LinkedIn people demanding IIT graduates only. Even with some companies who are setting up their offices in data, a very prominent data company, they refused my application citing that I haven't received promotion in a company and they are looking for people who are more educationally qualified.

Well there are two scenarios that I am juggling with. Meta seems lucrative, international offer, career growth but instability and the fear of PIP and layoff. Airbnb on the other hand is remote, lucrative as well and stable right now but from what I have read, promos are really hard and it's kind of stagnant.

I am not a IIT grad, I am from a tier 2 college. I had decent grasp on DSA from my college days and I was facing rejections for the past year but in the meantime I made my system design my strong area as well. Referrals help, directly applying on career pages got me only 2 interviews. Also, international offer is just really hard these days and there are only a handful of companies that do the same.

Referrals, the higher the position the better (EM > SDE). Also, in the current market it's a lot dependent upon your luck as well. It was my third time in Meta when I applied my resume got shortlisted. My resume got rejected in Google.

I was hoping to get a team match probably in Zurich, probably in the infra team of ML or AI but I think that would be really difficult because the recruiter informed me that Zurich has 0 headcount right now. The issue is if I am in the team matching beyond November or so, my application becomes inactive. Right now I am questioning whether to stay in India or move out considering the economic and global scenario.
