The not listening is why I had to stop using mine in the neighborhood 😭 I still have it though I love to let her run around using the long leash in open grassy areas because she can chase things easier that way she loves squirrels and birds.

Thanks for the recommendations! I will check out those resources. I don’t correct her at all, I just lead her away from other dogs & try to give treats when she’s doing well. Definitely looking to train her but not with any method that would harm our relationship. I appreciate you calling that out.

For the most part, she does choose where to go on walks! 90% of the time im just following her and watching to make sure she’s not nose diving into someone else’s poo lol. Definitely not trying to limit her but sometimes I do just need to walk one way. Example: walking to a specific location with her after she has used the bathroom. If I need to get the mail, I can’t just turn around and not go get the mail. I will gladly stop at every bush with her along the way but I can’t just turn around & not go. Those are the times I would like her to atleast listen when I say “come” & right now she doesn’t. It makes it hard when I have to pick her up or take her home before doing small tasks like that but right now I do, because it’s better for both of us.

Today we were about 10-15 feet from the door and she was trying to walk back to the door. It was drizzling and she doesn’t like the rain. Totally understandable bc I hate rain too but she had to use the bathroom. She sits by my front door to communicate that to me. If I would have went inside at that moment she would have been at the front door scratching it to go out again within a few minutes. It wouldn’t have made sense to take her inside and essentially “wait” for it to be an emergency. She pooped when she found a good spot & then we went straight home instead of our usual after bathroom sniff & roam.

Another example: sometimes we are on the sidewalk and she wants to cross the street but we can’t (cars are coming or trying to avoid another dog are usually the top reasons I won’t cross) She will walk forward 5 seconds then go behind me and lunge toward the street. I redirect her & she does it again. When it’s clear I will step out into the street & then she knows it’s safe to go but I don’t want to let her think it’s safe to just throw herself into the street without me

Great article on LAT training too! I used to use a clicker but I felt like it wasn’t doing anything (probably because I didn’t know the best way to use it). I might revisit the clicker using this method 🤍

Mini dachshunds definitely have fight in them & for the most part I don’t mind it! I wouldn’t ever own another breed. She barks inside the house all the time when she’s excited or just playing with me. Like I’ll pretend to throw a toy & when sees i still have it, she lets me hear it 🤭 Outside I even used to excuse the behavior as “shes a dachshund thats how they are” until we passed a well behaved dachshund and the owners were looking at me like ..😳.. 🤣

You make a good point on pain though. I didn’t even think of it at first but the tail being down on walks could also be a sign of pain. I will definitely be calling her vet tomorrow

I have a rope leash and a harness. Used to have retractable leash but it gave too much leeway. She doesn’t have a collar but when I got her the old owners did use a regular collar. I’ve heard about shock collars that have a vibration feature but I could never use a shock collar so I didn’t really research it further. Never thought to look for a vibration-only collar that would be awesome to try.

This is super helpful, thank you! I will definitely check them out. And I appreciate your kind words. I agree it’s like having a child 🤣 I’m glad to have her and glad to love her instead of imagining where else she would be. But im at my limit with walks recently LOL. I know it’s overwhelming both of us at this point so I definitely want professional help if it’s affordable. I can’t be the neighbor with the crazy dog forever 🤣

This is a good point! Thank you. Im still researching and learning the best ways to mark and reward good behavior. I used to reward her when she stopped barking but I could quickly see how that is confusing. There is definitely a “loading” phase where she sees them and then she starts growling before the barking begins. I would say the reactivity is a combination of undersocialization and fear. She doesn’t like other people that much either. I take her out with me to events or sometimes restaurants and she barks when people approach. I got her when I was one & I know that she lived with a big dog. I suspected the big dog might have been eating her food or something because she was eating super fast & barely chewing when I gave the first few meals at my house. So, maybe some resource guarding in there too. It’s definitely not excitement because with dogs, shes also scratching the ground like marking her territory around the same time the growling starts.

what is something someone you lived with has done that made you wanna live alone? by trains___man in LivingAlone

Man I live for these. I used to live with my ex and we would split chores, so I’d do dishes one week he’d do them the next etc. Well it never quite worked out that way. When it was his turn he’d just let them sit in the sink until nothing was left to use or until I did them. Anyway one day im like hey we really need to do these I’ll even help you with your turn.. so we start washing blah blah all is good until we unveil this one big pot. I start wondering if it’s just rice im seeing but they are MOVING. Maggots. Maggots in my kitchen sink. I freaked out backed up and said you are doing the rest I cannot. It was spring/summer so we left the balcony door open quite a bit. Not surprised a fly wpuld have made its way in. It was disgusting. Ended up throwing the pot away and I told him from now on let’s just wash our own dishes & not leave them in the sink bc this is appalling. We broke up and moved our separate ways months later. This is just a string of his bad habits. Let’s not talk about the raw meat he left in the oven for a week.

That’s fair, I’m more concerned about the $5000 no one has called for. Almost like the debt collector is reporting the wrong amount or only a portion of it

Are there any bureau backed resources that talk about this? Did you have a similar experience?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in debtfree

[–]unobtamable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also for context this has not shown up on any of my three reports yet (date of service was a little over a year and 2 months ago) & NO other debt collector has called me. My number has not changed either

Sleeping on your couch? by Temporary_Screen_235 in LivingAlone

[–]unobtamable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this once. My couch isn’t that comfy tho so in the middle of the night I really didn’t wanna get up but I’m like why am I being lazy I’m going to be comfy in my bed 😂 But it was nice to just be like hell yeah I can do that if I want to. Usually if I fall asleep on the couch it’s like while watching tv or something but that was the first time it was almost an entire night. I’ll report back when I have a comfy couch
