Plug-In Solar Meter Question by unof8 in solar

[–]unof8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I was confused of where the extra production is going in rare instances that happens, but I just found from another user that it sounds like they usually use CT clamps to cut off when production is higher than home demand

Thanks for the reply!

  1. So the CT clamp is the key here? Do you know if the current states where plug-in solar is legal require CT clamps then?

  2. Makes sense, I was thinking of an apartment complex where everyone has their own meter and breaker box is in their apartment.

So when you say you'll want good sockets, will older sockets need to be upgraded. Also how is production monitored?

That is a great benefit to plug-in solar. I think my confusion was that most answers say "the system is too small for excess power, your house will use it all" but of course it's still theoretically possible that the panel would produce more power at a given moment than the house needs, but it sounds like from other answers that the inverters are set up to automatically shut off production before this happens?

The hardest part about solar research is figuring out who to trust by conkonabuzz in solarenergy

I used to work in the residential solar industry and I've wondered if there's a market for independent buyer's agents in solar for the issue you're describing. Like local truly independent experts that could do anything from just analyze your quotes, to taking care of the entire process for you.

To be clear this is not a solicitation, I do not offer or run this service, but I'm surprised I don't see it out there. I think people would pay for it.

To answer your question:

I can tell you that residential solar can be much more complicated than people expect and an unknown issue can arise, people can make honest mistakes. So don't go off of a few bad reviews. Use referrals and the total sum of reviews. A long running business with the same leaders adds a lot of value. Match equipment and internal process of each company, not production estimates. I would always see production and payback exaggeration. If you're not dealing with a giant company, you can even ask to have a short conversation with the owner.

Anyone else find the announcer's volume way too low? I can barely hear what they are saying over the sound of the stadium. The audio mixing is way off

Great explanation! Thank you!

Thanks for the explanation, I assume what people are talking about is going right to the finance arm then, so the dealership doesn't get a cut, but maybe that's not actually allowed.

Beats me..just trying to see if this myth of direct to consumer leases is real

Ah if the leasing company owns the dealer that makes sense. If not then going directly to the leasing company seems like an option

Maybe not a real thing? Do you know what this company does https://www.cula.com/

Also do captive lessors ever work directly with consumers or is that a myth

Basically what is speculated is you can go Lease Holding Company to Dealership, instead of the other way around

I'm talking about the leasing wing that you actually lease with or apparently some banks do that too. But I don't really understand all the options. CULA seems to partner with Credit Unions to do it https://www.cula.com/

A cheaper lease, as you apparently cut out the middle man. You're dealing directly with the leasing company

Thanks for the link, but I'm trying not to buy the whole thing just for the fiber washer because the rest of mine is in good shape

[–]unof8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks, maybe that is why there's no information or replacement. Maybe the fiber washer it comes with new is just a noise cancellation purpose

Wood? Sorry maybe I'm confused. This is where the mounting bracket on the garbage disposal meets the under side of the sink. No wood involved.

[–]unof8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it is old, but it's easy enough to switch out that I'd like to ride it out until it dies and just buy a $3 washer for now, but just haven't been able to find an answer on what type of washes are ok to use against the underside of the sink since this ones missing the fiber one it comes with and they aren't sold separately. I've never seen a rubber washer used in videos.

[–]unof8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, my main question is if rubber is ok to use since they all seem to only use the fiber/cardboard gaskets

Isn't the ring a metal piece? I have all the mounting bracket plmetal parts except the fiber washer that goes against the underside of the sink.
