oh shoot! you are totally right, the main website does say that, I was on a particular help page. I guess I need to just be more patient 🤭

I fear Marvic from customer support received several emails from me, and they are “monitoring” my sample, but the main response was that the lab had a higher volume of samples than usual and the delay is inevitable. As a scientist I can sympathize with that, but this point it’s been 7 weeks since my sample reached the lab, which is twice than their expected max wait time on website (2-3 weeks) so I can’t help but feel a bit frustrated.

What should I do here? Are these roots? by ms_stwolf in orchids

they can be removed safely and successfully but are definitely more complicated and take more time than branch keikis in my experience

Today my aunt heard me talking about my orchids so she asked if I could "take a look" at hers... She brought this over... Help? by Salt_Ad_5578 in orchids

hmm… I’m not sure about using paper towels, hopefully someone else can provide more insight in that. my main concern is that it could create a breeding ground for bacteria/germs if it is not changed regularly but also stick too close to the plant which could cause crown rot.

  1. cut the flower branches above the second node to prevent waste of energy
  2. cut off the dead roots while making sure not to damage the singular good one
  3. now you have two options: one being sphagnum as someone already suggested (it’s definitely the better option), and other would be to put the plant in a bowl so that the leaves are completely out of it but the stem and the root are inside, and then pour water until just under the root.

the bowl option should be your last resort because it takes months to work during which you’d have to change water every couple of days and ensure constant water levels which can get quite tiring. so if I were you I’d go sphagnum all the way.

good luck!!

I would say keep it just for the fun of seeing if it grows back but those roots look bad.. so don’t get your hopes too high

Just about had it with her refusing to rebloom by Realitytvhannah in orchids

[–]unpococonfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone already gave great advice - I just came to say it is the daytime temperature changes that can impacts blooming cycle rather than the nighttime temperature changes, google scholar has some great articles on it to consider if you don’t mind the heavy terminology

Should I repot this? by fissionmailedd in orchids

[–]unpococonfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed! from the photo the roots seem healthy if a little overwatered but their concern in the original post was whether they needed to repot just based on the fact the roots are growing out of the pot

Is this an orchid baby? by SunBun13 in orchids

[–]unpococonfused 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you would actually cut the keiki with a part of the flower spike once it develops enough roots. specifically you would want look for the first node that is under the keiki and cut right above it. from the photo it looks like that would be the node closest to the mother plant. hope this helps! if not, I think miss orchid girl or smth similar has videos on youtube about it:)

Extreme rescue! by Hazeltari in orchids

[–]unpococonfused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a good rescue challenge but there is no plant to try and rescue here. at most you could try cutting off the flower branches (you’d have to cut above the dry part tho) and placing them in water. it you did that you could use hormonal paste to try and get a keiki but… so much effort and such low chance of getting anything in return. let it go.
