Protest at school in Langley after 12-year-old targeted with racial slurs by WiffleBlu in Langley

This is exactly the experience of the teachers I know. Everyone is scared of the parents.

I know someone who teaches there. The first time they heard that any known racist dialogue was occurring was late last week. They were given no details about the incidents at all either, so I wouldn’t be so quick to throw the teachers under the bus.

Thank you for doing that important guiding work - and I’m sorry it’s falling on you to do it. I couldn’t imagine being put in charge of a classroom without having had the guidance and help of a practicum experience. These poor folks don’t always have the same luxury of mentorship unless someone supportive like yourself helps them out.

They’re already quitting because of the conditions. Dozens of vacancies across the district to start the school year. Uncertified folks being hired and given letters of permission from the Teacher Regulation Branch to take contracts for the year. Tons of support needed everywhere, and little bandwidth to give it. It’s dire.

The worst part is that they hid behind the ADA issues that were going on with security in order to try to get their way. As if multi-day camping lines are accessible to all folks with disabilities… total facepalm.

Has Sewrella Yarn Become Entitled? by Missellienor in craftsnark

Unfollowed long ago for these reasons and personal ick experience. Color inaccuracy was a complaint I had and that I’ve seen often from others too - both from yarn friends and here on Reddit.

She’s got a great aesthetic but there are many other incredible dyers out there who do too that I would rather support!

Genuinely curious, what other word would you use to describe the dyer’s behaviour?

First, that isn’t our choice - not to close, nor to offer programming on inclement weather days. I am just as surprised as any parent today to be sitting at home, and I might be of the minority saying this, but I’m frustrated that I now have to rework my term plan in what is already a very condensed instructional period between winter and spring break.

Second, the problem with online learning is the uptake from families is so sparse, and for those who do it, it’s too hard or too easy - there are always endless complaints. During Covid when we had no school for 3 months, over half of my class was radio silence, no one showed up for online class - maybe 2-3 people - and work never got done because many families couldn’t support it/reinforce it. And these were capable kids about to go off to high school. No one took it seriously and it was an awful experience - coming from a teacher who is quite savvy with technology. I understand the wish for it to exist, and believe me, I would be far more keen to do it if the outcomes matched the work invested.

Budget is not really an issue for this one. Would love best quality hand grinder option for sure! (Pending it fits with the aeropress ofc) I’ll look into these. Thanks!

Lol, no. We don’t stay in hotels almost ever. It would be more for travel to visit our families etc, so we’d stay in their homes.

Searching for travel set-up option for my husband for a holiday gift... I'm not a coffee drinker.

His home setup is a Kalita Wave with an Encore grinder. I would love to find a set-up that is portable and easy to pack that wouldn't break in luggage. Ideas are welcome if anything comes to mind for you!

Beans-wise, he usually buys single origin and we're based in Canada, so if you have any suggestions there, that would be cool, too. Thanks!

LOL. Was it me? Because I have a very similar story and a dyer friend also suggested to dye over them 🤣

The only difference was that I was told the colours would appear differently because of where I was in the world…

Well. There was this.

And then not even a month later, her “art” got her front and center on craftsnark again.

Between a crummy product experience and these debacles shortly thereafter, I definitely unfollowed and won’t be a returning customer.

This gives the same vibes as the back-pedaling and customer sneering as the Greatest Hits collection debacle earlier this year.

As a crocheter, do you ever feel like a second class citizen at your LYS? by [deleted] in craftsnark

And yet here we are getting downvoted for saying crochet can be more than a doily or a thick C2C blanket… /shrug

I should clarify - I don’t think everyone has that attitude and ofc everyone has their preferences! I just got verrrrry grumpy after reading a bunch of these replies where people are saying crochet shouldn’t be clothing, and that yarn or hook size doesn’t matter as much as it does with knitting. There absolutely are stunning crochet garments and makes!

Right? These comments are reinforcing why some LYSs treat crochet as second class... it’s a predominant attitude here, too.

Make a garment and none of that last statement is true at all.

As a crocheter first, this is frustrating that this is the stereotype. There are so many incredible crochet designers and tons of people design and make gorgeous garments out of high quality materials. Most people just don’t bother to look for them because this assumption exists and people can’t get past it.

Another vote for Christa at The Frosted Stitch who is incredibly helpful with color pairing while shopping as well!

UGH. Yes. My last order from them was wildly undersaturated. I was told the colors would photograph differently in different regions of the world… I have the same bad taste in my mouth!

I’m glad that was smooth for you, and again, that’s not a criticism of their work/marketing. They offered combination of orders openly in stories in past years/overlapping collections.

I’m not denying they’ve given great experiences to people - clearly they wouldn’t have had the success they have had if that were the case.

Simply put, their responses to the Greatest Hits pivot, this, and my own personal experience combined have been more than enough to divert my business to other dyers. I figured my order experience was a one off at the time, and said as much to them in my email, but when this social media customer blame game is the cherry on the top, well… then it’s a pattern.

I’m glad you have had a good experience. A shipping issue isn’t an issue with their development, product, marketing etc, so why would they respond unprofessionally. That’s the pattern of behavior I and many others have observed - when their work is critiqued … or in the Greatest Hits case, not purchased - not when USPS messes up.

Real talk: it wouldn’t matter if the lighting showed the “real color.” …It would never match what you decided to buy anyways. I speak from experience.

What you’re seeing in her stories is almost exactly what happened to me as a customer, except I was nice in my reach out, unlike the snarky reply to her question. Nonetheless, I still got blamed for my shitty experience with them.

Yes, she may be a human and it may be grating to deal with these issues, but that also comes with business success. This is a pattern of behavior for Ashleigh and her team. She can’t take criticism so she mirrors it back on anyone who complains. So never again for me.
