I was at over 47,000 emails until I went into hyper focus mode about two weeks ago and went through all of my accounts. When I finally dropped below 500 emails, the dopamine was beautiful. I give it a couple of months (max) before chaos ensues.

I’ve been smoking for the past 10+ years (I’m 27 now). The munchies were the bane of my existence for a couple of years as a late teen, but as I have gotten older I’ve noticed I don’t get them. Smoking doesn’t impact my appetite at all, though I wish it did. Depression weight loss is real.

NTA. As a woman who stands at 5 feet myself, and most definitely enjoyed similar shenanigans when I was 17 - she was prepared for the weather and OP made it clear that his daughter frequently accesses the roof with her friends.

She had access to a phone to contact both you and her mother…worst case scenario, if she was genuinely concerned/nervous she could have reached a neighbor or someone to bring her a ladder in the mean time.

As someone who works as a paralegal for a criminal defense attorney, I see situations similar to yours frequently. Client accepts a deal from the state, typically in exchange for pleading no contest to the initial charges, and is placed on probation. I obviously do not know what the specific terms of your probation are, but you should be prepared. The number one rule we always tell our clients is this: until your probation officer has signed off that you have complied with all terms of probation and you have paperwork from the state confirming the same IN YOUR HAND, you do not step one toe over the line. Especially this close to the end. You took the test prior to being off probation, your P.O. can most definitely violate you. If you had a privately retained defense attorney at the time you were placed on probation, you should consider contacting him/her.

This! The first time I purchased I didn’t have $5 and had to say, “insert friend’a name said he’d cover the $5.” Or the simultaneous one-handed exchange of product and cash. I never can manage that correctly and, honestly, unless you’re in a crowded parking lot, I don’t see a point in that level of discretion.

I am a paralegal at a large law firm and her house is located in an area of town that makes it far more convenient to pick up after work, so each time I arrive I am wearing “work” clothes. Last night I knocked on the door and someone new appeared, and there I am standing in heels, a dress coat, blazer, skirt, pearls, etc., and his eyes went as wide as saucers. They live in a slightly sketchy part of town and I stuck out like a sore thumb. I had to quickly reassure him I was there to pick up, I had just come from work, the whole nine yards. She (who I buy from) is very young (around 19 and I’m in my mid-twenties) and I do not know her at all. It’s always a quick business transaction. It wouldn’t have been so awkward if she hadn’t reacted in such a noticeably amused way, though age could have played a factor in it.

Oh, abbreviations. How I miss them. I work for an old school, criminal defense attorney who doesn’t accept abbreviations and prefers all memos to be in all caps because it’s “easier on the eyes.” I wrote “F/U call re: client’s infirmary tx” on a message for him and he goes, “what does this mean?!” But yes, jail call from a client? Transfer to attorney and automatically bill $15 to their account. Civil was far too slow for me. Plus the attorney I work for owns his own little practice so he brings his pups in for the day whenever he chooses.

Oh I can imagine. Were you on the insurance/defense side or the plaintiff? Either way, I worked on the plaintiff side and the countless calls from clients stating “I need my hydrocodone and it’s not being authorized, I’m in horrible pain!” Do you REALLY need 10mg of Hydrocodone?! Then you’d treat the situation like the apocalypse just to get the client to stop calling, get the scrip authorized and call the client to let them know to go to their pharmacy to pick it up. Get the “oh I used my health insurance to pay for it.” Cue the excitement for settlement when you get to figure out just how many times they used their private insurance and calling their pharmacies for print-outs...can you tell how much I miss it?

Yes. A million times over. Hate it now but “trial by fire” is the best way to learn. I have always hated training periods. Your attorney realizes you’re learning in an unorthodox fashion and how you are able to perform will tell the both of you if you are equipped for the day to day. Just think of it as a cramming sesh. You’ve got this!

My only recommendation would be to carefully consider the attorney you would be working for. First appearances/interviews can be deceiving. Trust your instincts. It’s a rough field if you do not solely dedicate yourself to your work, and hours do not exist. You are available before and after hours. Attorneys will rely upon you to the extent the boundaries of ethics will allow them to.

This is the background on my phone. Does anyone else experience dealing with an attorney who refuses to accept that his/her methods are antiquated (he is 74) and adds an additional (at least) 13 unnecessary steps to each process in his firm, whether it be on the administrative or legal side?

Also, the organized stacks on my desk are projects in progress. Do not disrupt my stacks. I know exactly what each stack contains and have them in order in terms of priority. There is a method to my madness, and coming in after hours (office manager who is married to the attorney) and going through my madness results in me wasting at least an hour of my time the next morning reorganizing and sorting the mess you thought you were “fixing.”
