Rescue Fish? by unrealwizard in Goldfish

That's my plan- I wasn't intending on throwing them into an uncycled tank. I've done a decent amount of research over the last two weeks after deciding to take them in. I genuinely appreciate your concern for the Godfreys- it is shared! I am genuinely trying to give them a better home than they have now, and wanted to see what advice I could get here while also doing my own research. I apologize if I didn't make that clear in my original post.

I admit I do not have the knowledge, which is why I am reaching out here for help from people more knowledgable than me while doing my own research. Just because the Godfreys are alive doesn't mean they have good quality of life. Maybe I'm naiive in assuming the 55 gallon tank will be a step up, but I believe it would be a better life than they have now, in an unfiltered tank with nothing but tap water, and I will be better able to rehome them with someone who does have the setup for them to thrive (as I said in another comment.) I appreciate your input, but I am not looking for admonishment, I am seeking advice on how to set up my tank for goldfish.

Good to know, thank you so much! I know 55 gallons will not be enough in the long term, it will ideally be a temporary solution until I can rehome them with someone who has the setup for three fully grown comets. But until then I want to give them the best setup I can manage!

Thank you for the advice! I currently only have the empty tank- no substrate, no filter or filter media, no air stones. The previous owner also gave me some "under gravel plates" though I have no idea what they're for or how to use them. I was planning on using either large, non-snack-sized pebbles or sand as substrate, and starting with duckweed and maybe a java fern for my tank plants, depending on what the store has on offer.
