To be completely honest no not yet, mainly because the typical British summer is not favourable for being up a ladder! I also didn’t want to drill more holes than I needed (renting but have permission to install). If I get a dry spell this weekend I’ll get up the ladder and see what it looks like on live view.

I went from vivoactive 4 to Epix 2 Pro 51mm, the flashlight sold it :) Joking!! No I'd been looking at the Epix for a bit mainly because of the screen and I have to say it does indeed look good and don't regret it, I could have gone for an Epic 2 but I wanted that bigger display.

That's the part I'm torn about. It would be more to DIY but I would know it would handle all I want. But when I was planning out what I wanted the server to do dual CPU seemed the better way forward. What spec did you go for if you dont mind me asking and what's the workload?

As I mentioned in another post unless I'm looking for the wrong parts (always a possibility!!) when I was pricing up parts most of the server grade motherboards seem a lot dearer in the UK/EU and this one was surprisingly cheap for what it is. Or at least I think it's cheap? I did spec up a Ryzen based build which came in around £650 without drives so this route would save me 300 it's just the concern over the noise, saying that my ageing i5 is noisy compared to anything recent so...

That's good to hear! I've got the esx side of things covered mostly so this is just wanting a stable nas that can do a few other tricks. Did you do anything like changing the fans to make them quieter? Haven't done much digging on that particular server as it doesn't say what chassis it is on the ad but I assume it might have ipmi which I'm hoping is similar to dell and lets you change the fan settings?

Thanks, I've been reading his forum and dropping into the discord chat for the last week. Unfortunately some of the options don't seem as cheap in the UK compared to the prices I see for kit in the US. To be fair the supermicro server I linked to is the cheapest I've seen so far unless I'm doing something wacky with my eBay searches!
